Isn’t it time to get your family on the river? @sixriversrafting has unique guided rafting trips available on many different NorCal rivers. At Six Rivers Rafting they believe that your perfect rafting experience is possible and they strive to provide the best: experienced enthusiastic guides, high quality gear, safety consciousness, organic food, and attention to detail. This June 25th-28th they are excited to run their Junior Guide Camp and River Safety Training. Tweens and Teenagers (Ages 11-17) looking to have fun and learn the basics of guiding a raft and river rescue/safety techniques. Class will include an outdoor “classroom” component, but most of their time will be spent on the river with hands on learning about and practicing whitewater river skills, and having as much fun as possible! This non competitive 4 day class will be done mostly on class II sections of the upper Trinity River (between Big Flat and Cedar Flat), but will include a day (or 2) on the class III+ Pigeon Point section. Training will include, but isn’t limited to: Steering a raft with a paddle Using your crew maneuver a raft Reading the river Lines for rapids Eddies Getting unstuck Flipping a raft Hand signals Rescue rope bags …and more! The 4th Annual Foster Care Museum is currently on display at the Museum of Northern California Art @moncamuseum This exhibition is dedicated to sharing the unique foster care experience and celebrates foster youth’s resilience, talents, and perseverance. Through their stories, art, and artifacts, foster youth invite the community to see life through the lens of those who have experienced foster care. Please join us to support the creative expression of local foster youth and their talents. Using the same power a museum has to legitimize art to the public, the art on display can validate the experiences of marginalized identities, such as foster youth. For the population represented in the exhibition, it provides visibility and a sense of belonging in spaces like museums, which also supports contemporary museum practice by equitizing museum spaces. The Foster Youth Museum (originally subtitled “Lost Childhoods”) was first displayed at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art History in 2017. This exhibition was groundbreaking in that the museum partnered with organizations, current, and former foster youth to co-curate the exhibition. The Butte County Foster Care Museum is an adaptation of the original exhibition. This is an innovative approach as the museum shares power and authority with the subject of the exhibition in order to preserve the authentic voice. Thank you, MONCA, for this life-changing display.
