Immerse yourself in a relaxing day of creativity, flavor, and color through tea blending and watercolor painting this spring 🎨
Join us at monca on Thursday, May 16th for the Art of Tea & Watercolor workshops 🫖
There will be two workshop sessions to enjoy based on your preferences and painting experience levels. Both sessions start with an interactive tea blending bar, where you’ll craft a personalized cup of tea with assistance from Brittany of Lagom Infusions. Throughout the event, you may return to the tea bar to explore new blends and draw inspiration from the tea leaves themselves. Sip on your custom blend as our watercolor host, Jacqueline of Blueprint Creative, guides you through painting exercises.
Beginner Level Painter Session, 10:30AM-12:30PM
Beginner level painters will learn how to truly harness watercolor materials, building confidence blending pigments and water while learning essential brush techniques to achieve different effects.
After the guided warm-up, participants will apply what they’ve learned to create their own watercolor painting. Jacqueline will provide a folded greeting card featuring a hand-drawn teacup in pencil. Using non-water-soluble ink pens and fine art watercolor pigments, you’ll be free to paint to your heart’s content.
Intermediate Level Painter Session, 2:30-4:30PM
This session is designed for those who want to build on their foundational watercolor skills. Participants will explore layering, intentional color mixing, and brushwork that adds depth, movement, and personality to the painting.
Participants will learn how to work more deliberately with wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques and refine edges. With guidance, painters will apply these techniques to create a more detailed watercolor painting. Using non-water-soluble ink pens and fine art watercolor pigments, painters will be encouraged to experiment and develop style.
Tickets available online only. Secure your tickets as soon as you are able!
$40-45 admission per session. Feel free to sign up for both sessions if you are interested!

monca is proud to present two new exhibitions on view from Thursday, May 7, 2026 through Sunday, June 21, 2026, Plhis: Poetry Reimagined - AND - Never too Old…Never too Young 🖼️
Join us for the opening reception celebrating the exhibitions at monca on Friday, May 8, 2026 from 6-8PM. Admission to opening receptions is FREE for all and the museum bar will be open for beverage purchases. Learn more about the exhibitions below.
🌸 Plhis: Poetry Reimagined
A collaborative exhibit between literary artist Pa N. Vue and multimedia artist Maivzeb Lauj. The art pieces critically examine how missionization, war, displacement, and assimilation impacted Hmong language and ways of knowing as well as how Hmong people have reclaimed and can continue to reclaim their language. This project explores how poetic works can “plhis” or “be transformed” from their original textual and aural form and emerge reimagined through multimedia and multimodal visual expressions. “Plhis” evokes the essence of transformation and rebirth, reflecting how meaning shifts, evolves, and finds new life when moving between artistic languages.
🎨 Never too Old…Never too Young
Designed and curated by the monca Junior Board, the exhibition titled "Never Too Old...Never Too Young" features art of many mediums created by local students of all ages. The monca Junior Board developed the exhibition concept to reduce the barriers to entry many new artists face in seeking to exhibit their work in museum and gallery spaces. Throughout the entry, jurying, and exhibition process, participants were able to learn about what to expect and prepare when it comes to professionally exhibiting their artwork. The pieces presented in the exhibition showcase the amazing talents of local students and work to imbue the importance of equity for developing artists.

As a recent widow followed by a bout with breast cancer, she yearned for rediscovery to find passion again and a new path forward. She hopes her story inspires others to find the resilience to erase old boundaries and open doors labeled “not me” in the discovery of answers to “What Now?”
