🗓️ Next week is #PoCWeek, NP will be co-hosting a couple of great events! 1️⃣ Centring Civilian Agency and Community-Led Protection in an Era of Constraints, Austerity and Impunity The session will explore locally-led #UnarmedCivilian Protection approaches, how communities monitor and advocate for their own #safety, and how this evidence can strengthen civilian harm mitigation by armed actors. 2️⃣ PoC Week Through the Arts: Artists from Conflict on Protection, Pressure and Survival 🎨 An evening bringing together poetry, short film, music, and painting in a walking exhibition format — centering the voices of artists living in, or displaced by, conflict to explore civilian protection and respect for international human law through image, sound, narrative, and presence. Must RSVP by May 18— see 🔗 in bio! #NotATarget #ActForHumanity PoCWeek2026

🏛️ Quick shout out to the congressional champions that introduced the 'Protecting Human Rights & Public Health in Foreign Assistance Act' to block the expanded #GlobalGagRules. This policy directly attacks efforts to advance sexual and reproductive health, diversity, equity, and inclusion, gender equality, and the #HumanRights of #LGBTQI+ people. ❌ It extends to all non-military foreign assistance, including #HumanitarianAid, and to new entities, including U.S.-based organizations, UN partners, and even other governments. This expansion is an unprecedented and dangerous shift that the Trump administration is using to weaponize #ForeignAid... at the expense of global progress that benefits everyone. ⚖️ The new legislation proposed would block the Global Gag Rules, making U.S. foreign assistance more effective and ensure it reflects people’s needs. 👏🏽 Thank you to @senatorshaheen , @senjackyrosen , @repgracemeng , @reploisfrankel , @repdianadegette , @repjayapal , @repsarajacobs , and @repgregorymeeks for leading the charge to block the policy!

💬 "On the frontline, life is actually brutally clear. When you turn back to civilian life, the clarity is gone. You no longer have safe places. You constantly stay alert. Loud sounds, crowds, everything makes you feel nervous. It's overwhelming." -Nick Chernyshev, Safety & Security Officer, NP Ukraine 🇺🇦 Since 2022, over 1 million #Ukrainians have returned home from the frontlines. Alongside local partners, like @nchs.org.ua (Aid4Heroes), Nonviolent Peaceforce is supporting individuals that have served in the military. Collectively, our goal is to provide services and create the conditions for veterans to reintegrate into civilian life with dignity, while also strengthening #SocialCohesion so that communities can thrive in peace. 🎥: @fatratfilms

🗣️“These attacks are occurring in broad daylight, when people are going about their daily lives. The scale and nature of these strikes indicate an intent to cause maximum civilian harm.” -Joachim Kleinmann, NP Head of Programmes in Ukraine ❗️This week, several powerful explosions struck central Kramatorsk in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region. Homes, vehicles, and critical civilian infrastructure, including a school, were destroyed or damaged in blasts and subsequent fires. Following the incidents, NP staff and partners assisted at a casualty collection point. There, they they provided initial #FirstAid before the injured sought further medical treatment. NP staff and local #humanitarian partners also helped guide #civilians to underground shelters. Nonviolent Peaceforce strongly condemns Russian strikes on civilians and civilian infrastructure and reiterates the urgent need to uphold International Humanitarian Law and ensure full protection of civilians. #NotATarget See 🔗 in bio to read the full statement!

🔸 NP has joined a coalition of more than 90 organizations and 900+ individuals signing an open letter opposing the U.S. administration’s reported plan to relocate approximately 1,100 vetted Afghan allies from Camp As Sayliyah (Qatar) to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The #CampAsSayliyah population was already vetted and approved for U.S. resettlement. Sending Afghans to a third country where they have no support and will likely face protection risks should not even be considered. More than 400 of the 1,100 Afghans waiting at Camp As Sayliyah are children. We stand with Afghan allies and we're asking our network to share it widely — to friends, senators, journalists, to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. See 🔗 in bio to sign the letter! #KeepThePromise #AfghanEvac #CASOpenLetter

🤨Why is no one talking about the safety and security for civilians in the #MiddleEast? Tiffany Easthom, our Executive Director at NP shares her thoughts. 🗣️“Nothing is more important in this consideration than the safety and security and the lives of the everyday ordinary people, the civilians of the countries who are impacted by this current conflict in the Middle East.” #CivilianProtection #MiddleEastConflict

❗️Today, a Russian fibre-optic drone struck a humanitarian vehicle of Nonviolent Peaceforce’s (NP) partner organisation “Strong Because Free” in the city of Kherson, #Ukraine. Three humanitarian workers have been injured. NP strongly condemns the attack and we reiterate a call for the protection of #humanitarian workers and civilians, as required under international humanitarian law. #ProtectionOfCivilians #NotATarget 📷: @_strong_because_free_ See 🔗 in bio to read the full statement!

🔥Hot Take from Tiffany, our Executive Director at Nonviolent Peaceforce! 🎤“There’s never going to be enough money to address the hunger, the shelter, the water, the medical, crises that are happening. We have to back up and say, ‘where is our best investment?’ And our best investment is with the prevention of violence first and foremost. So how do we protect ourselves, protect each other at the smallest unit of society on a day-to-day basis?” What do you think? #FoodForThought #ViolencePrevention Panel excerpt from the Democracy Exchange conference, where Tiffany Easthom was invited by the Global Pluralism Centre to be a speaker on a panel that looked at security and Canada’s reforming of the country’s approach to security and defense in 2026 and beyond.

🌱 As we wrap up #EarthDay2026, sharing a few powerful #PeaceQuotes from two environmentalists that were advocates of peace and #nonviolence. Their leadership continues to inspire us. 1️⃣ "Protecting the global environment is directly related to securing #peace." -Wangari Maathai 2️⃣ “We have the choice to use the gift of our life to make the world a better place... or not to bother.” -Jane Goodall 3️⃣ "You can educate people on how to preempt their own conflict." -Wangari Maathai 4️⃣ “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” -Jane Goodall
