So exciting to see iteration of our
@nomadic.objects collage Letter to a Refusing Pilot turning into flags among other poetic and political work thanks to amazing organizing by
@udruzenjekurs 🌹
Collages interconnect exercises on color theory by Josef Albers, discarded abstract expressionist prints, fragments of an archival photograph of the Partisan Square in Titovo Užice and text from a pamphlet on the video work Letter to a Refusing Pilot by the Lebanese artist Akram Zatari.
Excerpt from the curatorial text: "The term "Fortress of Peace" opens up many questions for us about the European heritage and the relationship with other peoples and cultures: where does that fortress begin and who is its creator, who or what is the threat to the peace that the fortress protects, and who, how and when grants permission to enter the fortress, and whether one is free when one sets foot inside. Divided into three parts, the exhibition points to the phenomena of the society in which we live, which are part of the heritage of Europe, such as: Eurocentrism, legacies of colonialism, neocolonialism, exploitation, migration, Frontex. Some interventions also present ideas for the future that offer opportunities to overcome these concepts and their shortcomings."
