Whether on alpine pastures or near popular attractions, parking quickly becomes a challenge during peak times. Managing visitor flows more effectively and making better use of existing infrastructure requires two things: reliable data and the ability to turn it into clear, usable information.
Together with the Open Data Hub, @ithel_srl , a South Tyrolean company specialised in smart security systems and network infrastructure, shows how this is possible through intelligent cameras. In a new project in Villanders, real-time data such as occupancy levels and available parking spaces is being captured and turned into a tool designed to support smaller municipalities.
The video shows how it works in practice

How รRT uses 3D models and open data to visualise landscapes.
How can we better understand geographical environments? The รRT project offers an innovative answer: it creates interactive landscape models in the form of 3D wooden reliefs enhanced by digital projections. Information such as the position of the sun, snow cover, and other geographical data appears directly on their surfaces.
An approach that makes it possible to experience landscapes from a perspective reminiscent of satellite imagery, clearly revealing spatial relationships. The system is powered by reliable weather and geodata from the Open Data Hub, which is seamlessly integrated and projected onto the 3D models in real time. The result is a set of applications that communicate complex geographical information in an intuitive and engaging way. How? Find out in the video!

That is precisely the question at the heart of GRASSROOTS, a Fusion Grant project run by @euracresearch and Piano Green. The project focuses on grassland systems across South Tyrol and how they can be made more resilient to the effects of climate change. To find out, the team is analysing how plants respond to shifting conditions and extreme weather events, both in the field and under controlled conditions inside Piano Greenโs Microcosmo, a smart field simulator featuring two independently controllable chambers for soil and aboveground conditions.
ย
The data gathered will help identify more robust plant species and inform smarter, more targeted grassland management in the years ahead. The ultimate goal: meadows and pastures that are hardier, more stable, and more productive. A concrete response to an increasingly unpredictable climate.
ย
The project also brings in Elsa Andres, a postdoctoral researcher who works at the interface between research and real-world application as part of the Fusion Grant programme.

How do we turn data into digital services that are truly useful for everyone? The software company Yanovis has found its answer. By integrating real-time scheduled flight data from @flyskyalps , sourced directly from the Open Data Hub, into its Yanovis Travel Suite, hotels can now offer their guests tailor-made packages, including matching flights.
The result is a seamless travel experience that connects tourism and mobility on a single platform, made possible by data that is always up to date, accessible and ready to use.
Yanovis is just one example of what becomes possible when data is open and shared, not just for one company, but for an entire ecosystem of services that benefit the wider community.

That's exactly the idea Geomatrix is working on. The start-up, which we are supporting through our Acceleration & Scale-up Programme, is developing a material that combines wood residues from industry with recycled plastic, creating an alternative to conventional petroleum-based plastics.โ
โ
What makes it special: the materials used are already available in the region and have largely gone unused until now. The result is a versatile, durable, and visually appealing composite that can be used across a wide range of products, from mobility and construction to furniture and packaging. Compared to conventional petroleum-based plastic, it can cut COโ emissions by around half.โ
โ
Geomatrix chose NOI Techpark to develop its business model further, in a dynamic environment with targeted support, funding opportunities, and the right infrastructure to scale.โ

Tuesday evening, at the third edition of ๐ก๐ข๐ ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ต๐ง๐ฎ๐น๐ธ๐, we tried to find an answer to that question, or at least to ask the right ones. Moderated by Cyntha Wieringa, the conversation brought together, Sally Wyatt, Professor of Digital Cultures at @maastrichtuniversity , and Deborah Mascalzoni, Head of the ELSI Research Group (Ethical, Legal and Social Implications) at the Institute of Biomedicine at @euracresearch , offered a nuanced perspective and made clear how many uncertainties this topic still raises.ย
Consider the datasets used to train AI models: they are often not sufficiently representative, which can lead to skewed diagnoses. Then there are the grey areas around clinical responsibility, for which the legal framework has yet to provide clear answers. And health data requires not only protection, but also transparency and a clearly defined purpose in the public interest.
The potential of these technologies is undeniable. But the questions of who benefits, who decides, and who gets left behind cannot be delegated to algorithms.
Evenings like this remind us how important it is to explore these topics in an open dialogue between equals. Thank you to everyone who was there and joined the discussion!ย

PIPO is an innovative solution for people living with urinary incontinence: a non-invasive sensor patch worn on the abdomen that monitors bladder filling, sends data to an app and uses AI to help identify the right moment to use the toilet. For many people, this means one thing above all else: greater dignity, confidence and independence in their daily lives. PIPO can also help cut down on the use of single-use products such as nappies and panty liners.
We have been supporting PIPO and its project partners Kerr, MetaEsse and @mmdesign_studio as part of the ERDF-funded project. With that phase now complete, the road ahead is taking shape: industrialising the product, refining the algorithm, improving the app experience and preparing for clinical trials.
PIPO is a powerful example of what becomes possible when medical technology, data and artificial intelligence come together.
โ We will be exploring these developments, and the risks that come with them, at the next ๐ก๐ข๐ ๐ง๐๐๐๐ง๐๐๐๐ฆ ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฏ๐ญ๐๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ต. Come and join the conversation!

Last week marked our ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ผ ๐๐ฎ๐, the event that closes the six months of our Pre-Incubation Programme and gives participating start-ups the opportunity to take the stage and present the results of their journey.
A long-awaited moment: after months of work side by side with mentors, coaches, makers and company builders, the selected start-ups showed investors, partners and the NOI community how far they have come, from first prototypes to presentations for potential investment partners.
We would like to recognize the work of all the start-ups and to highlight ClimbAI as the standout project of this edition, an AI-powered coaching app that uses computer vision trained on 6,000+ hours of climbing footage to deliver real-time, coach-level feedback on body positioning and technique. We also thank @sparkasse_cassadirisparmio and @ldv20_ for the support.
