NEW! Issue #1 2026 For Peter Noever, the development and aesthetic condition of this city has never been incidental; it has been a sustained commitment. His interventions in Vienna’s public realm — realized in collaboration with leading international artists — remain enduring markers of contemporary art’s presence. Among them are Tor zum Ring by James Wines / SITE, Stage Set by Donald Judd, Peter Noever’s MAK Terrace Plateau, and the intervention by Michael Kienzer. These works continue to demonstrate that public space can be both intellectually charged and aesthetically uncompromising. His collaboration with Lebbeus Woods, however, opened an exceptional and rare possibility: to think beyond incremental adjustment and toward a genuine reorientation — conceptually, structurally, and culturally. With the intervention System Wien, it seems, the federal capital was compelled — if only briefly — to confront its own reflection. The recent essay by Theresa Mörtl in the newly published issue of the Swiss architecture magazine modulor reads as an unmistakable indication of missed opportunities, pointing to a discourse that hesitated where it might have acted.

Away from the official Venice Art Biennale, Peter Noever visits the remarkably resilient artist Hans Weigand. Now residing in the heart of the lagoon city until summer. Hans has set up his exhibition "Rising Waters / Falling Skies" (curated by Venice's Internationally acclaimed Ausstellungsmacher Mario Codognato) and quarters in the Palazzo Pisani Santa Marina. There, he paints, pursues his art, sleeps, eats, and welcomes his friends, collectors, and of course, the knowledgeable art aficionados. Currently, he is working on a painting for Peter Noever's peace initiative, the exhibition "Peace Now!", which will open on August 27 in the European Capital of Culture in Bad Ischl, Austria. Artists who advocate the confrontation of free thought and other points of view are defamed or hushed up.
