“Trinity” is a floor-mounted sculpture which was conceived as an shrine/reliquary entombing the memory of the first atomic bomb, developed by J. Robert Oppenheimer.
The mixed media sculpture is comprised of a framing hemisphere to which Oppenheimer’s “tomb” is mounted. Inspired by the “vesica piscis” – overlapping disks of the same radius that frame the image of Christ in early Christian iconography – Oppenheimer, here, is the creator, eternally tied to the moment of detonation of the atomic bomb at Hiroshima. His image is bound in a guaze bandage that trails off into a cluster of pocket watches, all set to the time of ignition. He is bound to his invention. He is also a genie.
The “bomb” itself is a 3-D spherical mirror to which images of “flowers” are attached. These flowers are actually paintings of ‘Rapatronic’ photographs of atomic explosions that depict the first nanoseconds of various detonations. A mock crown, derived from the famous “Milk Drop Coronet Splash” photo by Harold Edgerton – who also developed a custom shutter for atomic bomb photography – sits atop the sculpture.
The whole piece is mounted on a sculpted concrete base, with protruding fused and oxidized coins.
“Trinity” is one of the works in the “Fleeing Shadows” exhibition which opens June 15 at 18:30 at the KULTUMUSEM in cooperation with La Strada Graz. .

“T= +76.437” is derived from archival photos of the space shuttle Challenger explosion in 1986, which killed all seven crew members and set back the manned exploration of space for decades.
“T= +76.437”, is fashioned from a detail of a moment of the explosion itself. The smoke ball with diverging plumes, resembling an ancient artifact of a severed sacrificial head, is made of patinized and polished bronze referring to an ancient artifact pulled from the sea — of our collective memory.
“T= +76.437” is one of the works in the “Fleeing Shadows” exhibition which opens June 15 at 18:30 at the KULTUMUSEM in cooperation with La Strada Graz.

"T= 0 - +73.191”
Sculpture is derived from archival photos of the space shuttle Challenger explosion in 1986, which killed all seven crew members and set back the manned exploration of space for decades.
“T= 0 - +73.191" is based on archival photos of the disaster, is cast from aluminum and polished to reflect the surrounding environment.
The sculpture functions as a physical timeline from ignition to the explosion. #aluminumsculpture #aluminumcasting #sculpture #artinstallation #challengerdisaster #nasa #nasa🚀
As of late May 2023, the migrant crisis in the Mediterranean continues to escalate as increasing numbers of displaced individuals attempt the perilous journey to Europe.
The work “Elégie” pays homage to the migrants who are dying at sea attempting to cross the sea into Europe.
The sculpture is comprised of two centrally located hands, placed back to back – one cast in aluminum but treated to look like lead, and the other cast in brass but finished to look like gold - placed at eye level between two intersecting razor wire disks.
Behind the hands is a mirror assembly. The ‘lead’ hand facing the viewer is etched with punched text from firsthand accounts of migrants - “I am splintered wood and tears and sea water,” for example – while the polished ‘gold’ hand facing the mirror, which can only be read in reflection, has excerpts from the Christian beatitudes.
“Elégie” is one work of the “FLEEING SHADOWS” exhibition.
