I came across this post on TikTok that one of my Aunts had shared. This is my late uncle Noel Pointer. The Grammy nominated jazz Violinist, whose music has been the soundtrack to a depth and sadness I’ve known all my life and never understood until adulthood. The post is to commemorate the 30th anniversary of my auntie Chichi’s music program. In this clip his words are simple but impactful, this is just the intro one of my favorite songs that he wrote. If you want to hear more he’s easy to find. I hope it resonates with somebody today ❤️
You might like the fusion gems by violinist Noel Pointer. While his debut was released on Blue Note Records, he made a switch to the more commercial boys of United Artists for this second one called ‘Hold on’ that came out in 1978. It features a superb duet with Patti Austin (‘Staying with you’) and other tracks that are worth a listen such as ‘Stardust lady’ and Stevie Wonder-cover ‘Superwoman (Where were you when I needed you)’.

On this night along with family and friends we celebrated the 30th Anniversary of The Noel Pointer Foundation. An organization that was established by Chinita Pointer in the honor of her husband Noel Pointer. The night was filled with so many honoree’s as well as music played by the original band members and guest artist. So many memories of my uncle Noel came flooding back as the band began to play, I could not hold back my tears. My children were front and center and were able to experience this amazing occasion as well as feel the essence of an uncle they have never met. Through the foundation his legacy lives on. I salute the students, board members, teachers, alumni, staff, family members and everyone who played a part in making this night a success.
