Northern Colorado Equality is designating our upcoming July board meeting as a Special Meeting for the purpose of voting to amend our bylaws. The following change has been proposed: to change the scheduled annual meeting from the first quarter of the year to the last quarter of the year.
The relevant bylaw currently reads: “The Annual meeting will occur during the first Quarter of each calendar year. The reminder and agenda for the annual meeting will be published no less than twenty-one (21) days prior to the meeting date.” (Article IV, Section 10)
The proposed amended bylaw will read: “The Annual meeting will occur during the final Quarter of each calendar year. The reminder and agenda for the annual meeting will be published no less than twenty-one (21) days prior to the meeting date.”
If this change is adopted, there will be a one-time re-aligning of terms. All current Board members may opt to end their term early to align with the new annual meeting, or to continue until 3 years after their election.
Why is this being proposed?"
This change was proposed for two primary reasons:
- To allow new volunteers that join at Pride to get involved immediately
- To allow new officers more time to participate in the entire Pride planning process instead of taking over a few months before Pride, when many decisions for the event has already been made
- To allow more time for outgoing and incoming officers to coordinate the necessary training and access outside of the busiest months of Pride planning
