Purpose doesn't start at the top. It travels by Prof Mervyn King. When leadership embraces integrated thinking, employees at every level start to see the bigger picture — how their work connects to their community and to the society their family calls home. That connection builds accountability. It builds meaning. And it changes how capital gets allocated. #BusinessForGood

South Africa does not have a capital shortage. It has a capital direction problem. Dr Hubert Danso reminded us to ...."Stop trying to make investment developmental, AND MAKE DEVELOPMENT INVESTABLE"..... as senior leaders from across the investment ecosystem sat down with government and UN partners to change that — focusing investment on energy, jobs, food and skills. Four years to the SDG deadline. The clock is running. And making development investable is what action looks like. #SustainableInvestment #JustTransition

The room has spoken. A few weeks back, South African investors, policymakers and @unitednations partners gathered at the @johannesburg_stock_exchange for a conversation that doesn't happen often enough. Energy transition. Climate-smart agriculture. Digital infrastructure. Youth employment. Four pillars. One urgent question: how do we make the capital move? #EnergyTransition #ResponsibleInvestment

South Africa has the capital. The question is whether we have the will to deploy it where it matters most. 💼🌍 At a High-Level Investor Roundtable held at the @johannesburg_stock_exchange , leaders from finance, development, and the private sector gathered to ask a hard question: why does investment keep falling short in energy, infrastructure, food systems and human capital — even when the money exists? The answer wasn't a lack of funds. It was fragmentation, weak project pipelines and a system that makes it too difficult to move capital from institutions into communities. 🏗️ One reframing stood out: youth unemployment is a stranded asset. People are infrastructure. And investing in skills and employability isn't charity — it's how you protect long-term returns and build a resilient economy. 🎓 The roundtable was convened by the United Nations in South Africa, the UN Global Compact and the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). The next step is execution — defined pathways, real projects and measurable impact that South Africans can see and feel. 🤝 The commitments have been made. Now comes the work of turning capital into change — at scale, with urgency and with ordinary South Africans at the centre. ✊🇿🇦 🔗 Full story in bio.

Young people searching for work. Communities without reliable energy. Farmers adapting to drought. The private sector has a role in solving these challenges — but not as a donor. As a co-creator. This week at the UN Country Team Retreat, @sandaojiambo , CEO of the UN Global Compact called for: partnerships built around shared investment in the SDGs — from energy to decent work to digital access. Not funding requests. Co-creation from the start. #SDGs

"Every decision taken in a boardroom, on remuneration, procurement, parental leave, safety, investment, and disclosure, is also a justice decision. These choices shape opportunity, risk, and longterm value." ~ @nmuffuh , @unitednations in South Africa, Resident Coordinator at the Ring the Bell event for Gender Equality. 🔗Full Video: Link In Bio

International Women’s Day: Community Engagement on Advancing Equal Access to Justice for Women Ilitha Labantu will host an International Women’s Day Community Engagement on Advancing Equal Access to Justice for Women under the theme “Give to Gain” on Friday, 13 March 2026 at the Gugulethu Public Library, as part of the organisation’s continued efforts to stand firm in the fight against gender-based violence and femicide, persistent and deeply rooted challenges within our communities. The theme calls for collective commitment and action, recognizing that when communities invest in the rights, protection and empowerment of women, society gains safer and more just communities. The engagement will provide a platform to unpack the barriers that continue to prevent many women from accessing justice, strengthen awareness of available legal protections and support services, and reflect on the role communities play in ensuring that justice is accessible, responsive and inclusive. Through dialogue and shared learning, the session aims to strengthen community awareness, promote accountability, and encourage collective action to advance the rights and dignity of women. Date: 8 March Time: 10:00 AM Venue: Gugulethu Public Library Women from all walks of life are encouraged to attend and take part in this important community dialogue on advancing equal access to justice and protecting the rights and dignity of women and girls. #InternationalWomensDay2026 #GiveToGain

In observation of World NGO Day 2026 and this year’s theme, “Restoring Dignity Through Inclusion,” we recognise the critical role NGOs play in expanding access and protecting the dignity of those most vulnerable, particularly women and children. Dignity is not a privilege; it is a fundamental human right. Inclusion is not symbolic, it requires meaningful access: access to support services, access to justice, access to safe spaces, and access to information that empowers individuals and strengthens communities. In many communities affected by violence and inequality, NGOs serve as first responders, advocates, educators, and trusted partners, bridging gaps and ensuring that women, children, and other vulnerable groups are not left behind. Through violence prevention programmes, advocacy efforts, and community partnerships, Ilitha Labantu works to expand access, restore dignity, and advance justice for all. #WorldNGODay #RestoringDignityThroughInclusion

Last Friday, I’ve attended the Annual post-SONA high-tea organised by the United Nations in South Africa and the Desmond and Leah Tutu Foundation. This annual gathering is a platform for members of diplomatic corps, government, civil society to convene and reflect on the presidents State of Nation Address (SONA) As a young person I welcome the presidents unwavering commitment to young people and the creation of the “Job Boost Fund” to ensure that economic growth continues to serve young people through economic inclusion. I stressed that if we can’t give to all peoples on this planet the basics of rights promised in the SDG’s, we cannot talk about being a successful generation in human civilization. And yes many promises were made, will we get all? Probably not. But our failure to try and our failure to press ahead is what we will be condemned for, but I pray that even at this moment of great challenge, of great, great disruption, that we as human beings will show why we on this earth are a resilient species and why we have within us the capacity to do right and to be the right person for the time by advancing not just our individual interests but recognizing our common destiny. #PostSONA #YouthLeadership #UNinSA 🇺🇳🇿🇦
