C A L F . O F . E D A Y A beautiful day for heli-ops at Calf of Eday today. Calf of Eday is a minor light situated on the island of Eday north-east of mainland Orkney. The team are there to prepare for the lighthouse refurbishment which will include replacing the access ladder, balcony and lightroom, along with a complete electrical re‑work. P H A R O S PHAROS is a multi-function tender which came into service in 2007 to support the maintenance of our lighthouses and other aids to navigation (AtoNs). She has an overall length of 84.25 metres, a breadth of 16.5 metres and a draught of only 4.25 metres. She is equipped with Dynamic Positioning (DPII), a 30 Tonne main crane on her 300m2 aft deck and a helipad. The vessel works with a contract helicopter and her own workboat to provide access to and re-supply of some of the most remote lighthouses in Scotland and the Isle of Man. Both PHAROS and POLE STAR operate from our base in Oban. #maritime #oban #ships #buoy #scotland

O B A N . B A S E For over 120 years, our Oban base has played a vital role in keeping mariners safe. From maintaining solar‑powered navigational buoys to supporting our ships PHAROS and POLE STAR, the team on site includes Administration, Stores, Helicopter and Buoy Co‑ordination, Base Assistants and Engineering staff. The buoys are refurbished using modern, environmentally conscious processes — helping them stay on station for up to six years before returning to Oban for a full refit. Thank you to our Chief Executive, Mike, for capturing the photos — including a stunning sunset! #Oban #MarineSafety #BuoyRefurbishment #scotland
