On this day in 1995, The Pharcyde released their sophomore LP "Labcabincalifornia".
This is one of the most important Rap albums for me personally. I discovered it a few months after it's release and it became my soundtrack to the summer (and the whole year) of 1996…and since then it always has been one of my Top 5 favorite 90s Rap albums of all time. It just sounded so different for a Westcoast record back then.
There's simply no track I would want to skip, I mostly listen to the whole thing from beginning to end.
Surely there are tracks that stand out for me, like Bullshit, Groupie Therapy, Hey You, Y? or Devil Music, and I didn't even name the ones that got released as videos and on 12" like Drop, Runnin' or She Said.
The whole album is an experience.
With additional production by Diamond D and M-Walk, the LP was mostly produced by The Pharcyde themselves and a young and upcoming producer named Jay Dee, who as we all know later went by the name of J Dilla (RIP) and became one of the greatest and most respected Hip Hop Producers of all time.
This album will always have a special place in my heart.
