IT ALL ENDS IN A POUR.
Yesterdayâs performance at @brooklynbowl reminded me what true creativity means for a DJ. Itâs about putting in the effort and earning your spot on stage alongside the likes of the Pharcyde. Whether thereâs an age gap or cultural difference between the crowd witnessing what we do behind these turntables and us, the 10,000 hours of practice and reinvention weâve dedicated to our craft wonât let us fall for the âhot takesâ of these new Fratboy DJs. We refuse to buy into the idea that audiences âdonât want to hear scratchingâ anymore, because @thexecutioners â philosophy is that the way you play music should be rooted in authenticity and personal expression, creating a lasting, resonant connection that going viral hardly ever achieves.
Huge thanks to the Pharcyde for having us out! Itâs truly an honor to open for a group that inspires us so much. To @brooklynbowl , thank you for the opportunity to step onto your stage. We had a blast.
Special thanks to our crew - agent @focusednoise for creating this incredible opportunity for @daoddcouple , road manager @djmozdef , stage manager @djmarks09 , and videographer @helin.alicia . Last night wouldnât have been the success it was without your support.
Much love to @doctor_polygon , @bigfer357 , @brooks____b , @hwmk , @afrofugees , @elena_lovable , and everyone else who attended last nightâs show. We appreciate your ongoing support for real DJing!
Peace!

As a teenager, Grandmaster Flash constructed a homemade cue by assembling components he bought at Radio Shack and attaching them to his mic mixer. While other Hip-Hop DJ pioneers like Kool DJ Herc relied on trial and error to cue up a song, Flashâs makeshift headphone monitor allowed him to develop his own organized method of playing and manipulating music, which he calls the âQuick Mixâ and âClock Theories.â
Grandmaster Flash is not only a key pioneer in Hip-Hop culture but also a symbol of what makes the Hip-Hop DJ stand out among house, EDM, Techno, and other DJ traditions. Hip-Hop DJs possess a hidden strength that no other genre of DJ has: resourcefulness. You see these festival âDJsâ standing behind thousands of dollars of equipment, and all they can do is press a few buttons, tweak some EQ knobs, and thatâs it. The Hip-Hop DJ turns scraps into gear, solves problems on the spot, and adapts to any audience because our skill lies in how we control the equipment under our fingertips, not in how the equipment controls us.

It was a 12-year-old named Theodore Livingston, also known as @therealgrandwizzardtheodore in the Hip-Hop DJ community, who showed us the importance of not just copying what our idol DJs have done but instead transforming it. Maybe this is what defines Hip-Hop â noticing, observing, understanding, and then innovating.

Rob Swift of the X-Ecutioners getting down at the Soul Arts Festival curated by Fat Beats at the Puck Building (Aug. â96). It was a dope event hosted by Bobbito GarcĂa featuring The Executioners & the Rock Steady Crew. DJ Skribble & DJ Riz provided the sounds that night.
Hip-Hop history has been manipulated by certain people within the culture to serve personal interests. Some of our own OGs of the culture are practicing historical negationism to enhance their legacies and minimize the contributions of peers they feel threaten their reputations. So they move dates around and embellish the events that shaped Hip-Hopâs formative years. I donât have a dog in this fight, tho. My place in Hip-Hop history isnât tied to its origins, so I have no preference regarding who, what, when, where, and why. All I care about is accuracy because the TRUTH is the foundation of history. Without truth, history becomes mythology, and methodology is not rational.
Iâd like to thank @djdubdotcom for curating this past weekendâs @theflavorsummit in Baltimore and @dj2tonejones for moderating this Q&A session.

Whenever you see @daoddcouple in your area, rest assured youâll experience true Hip-Hop integrity, as our core DJ sound values are more about staying true than chasing mainstream fame. If we were in it for clicks, weâd be playing that corny đŠ.
We want to thank @trinityhiphop for inviting us to their 20th annual International Hip-Hop Festivalâit was a dope experience!
What a day, D.C.! This afternoonâs intimate gathering at @songbyrddc felt like @sinista119 and me performing at an invitation-only concert at someoneâs house. It was cool to feel like we were playing in front of friends. I want to give a special shout-out to DJ Dub from @theflavorsummit for curating todayâs event.
Da Odd Couple will perform at the 20th International Hip Hop Festival DJ Showcase on Friday, April 10th, at Litebox Studios (1429 Park Street, Hartford, CT)!
The synergy between DJs and dancers is profound. Itâs where motion merges with emotion. Although both forms of expression can exist on their own, in Hip-Hop, street dances like Breaking are largely responsible for inspiring DJs like Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash to focus on the âbreak partâ of a record and eventually extend it, which later became the blueprint for Rap music.
