Today is the 10th anniversary of songwriting legend (and massive hero of mine) Guy Clark's death. So am posting an illustration I painted to accompany an interview I did with him (for the late lamented Stool Pigeon) in 2005. The interview can be found on my substack page:

Guy was a generous interviewee until (young and earnest) I asked if he believed in ghosts. He emitted a noise of such derision that it actually sounded quite supernatural. For a moment I though we were done but he was kind enough to let it slide. Great man and what a legacy of great songs.

'Molonglo River at Dusk' Oil paint, screenprint, ink, spray paint, encaustic on canvas. 91cm by 79cm.
A made up landscape which I am calling 'Molonglo River at Dusk' because I can't get enough of the word Molonglo (prob because it sounds like 'Congo River' from 'Heart of Darkness')
Anyway the trees are from the banks of the Molonglo but the mountain is Gearr Aonach in Scotland (part of the 3 Sisters, Glencoe) and the rest is from God knows where.
Not that any of this matters. It either works or it doesn't.

Really pleased to say that 'Frontier' has been selected as a finalist in the Stanthorpe Art Prize exhibition. It will be on show with other finalists @stanthorpeartgallery , Stanthorpe, Queensland from 12th June to 23rd August.

'Molonglo River, Mid Afternoon' 122cm by 73cm. Oil paint, ink and encaustic wax on aluminium composite.
One of my favourite quotes is by Dylan Thomas who suddenly declared in the middle of (his own) rambling speech: 'someone's boring me and I think it's me'.
I had a similar sense last week in the studio whenever I saw this painting. Sort of 'something in here is boring me and I think it's my picture'.
So we butted heads a bit and hopefully both emerged the better for it (this image is the updated version so don't anyone say 'fuck me this is boring').

I painted a large portrait of great blues musician Frank Sultana @franksultanamusic a few weeks ago. Then decided that this different composition might also be interesting because (I hope) it hints at a sort of musical emanation (the folds of the blue sheet on the floor echoing the spread of Frank's fingers.) Needs a bit of tightening but hopefully the sense is there.
