A painting of myself from earlier in the year. Definitely looking back on this one and feeling like I could paint my body so much better now. Also reckon I could put a lot more emotion into it compared to this. I've got some figure paintings on the go atm and I'm pretty stoked to compare them to this one once they're done. Anyways, SWEET AS #art #painting #oilpainting #representationalart #figure #figurativeart #figurativepainting

These are a couple figure paintings I did recently from some photos I took of myself. It was a really interesting challenge trying to approach the figure in one layer of paint, especially with no preparation. It feels like the image appears out of a messy nothingness, but I think that's good, the painting ends up feeling alive at the end. Definitely keen to do some more of these and I'm curious about how I can apply some of this logic to my other work 🐝

Stoked to say that this self portrait I did got into the Adam Portrait Award! I'm super excited to see all the other awesome paintings there. I feel like looking back on this painting, which I completed last year, there's so many things I'd do differently as this was really a painting I learned a lot on. Which I suppose adds to my little bit of nervousness at it being in the award. It lacks some artistic qualities that I wish it had, or rather I wish I had known how to preserve them in the painting, but that's just something to keep in mind for future work. So many lessons and yeah, humbled to have the privilege of showing this painting in the Adam! #art #painting #portraitpainting #AdamAward2026

Another painting in the sketchbook. I like this one a fair bit even though the figures are quite rough. Makes me wonder about who feels the most human to me in the painting. I don't know whether there is a hero or a protagonist in this image. I also don't know whether to pity the naked figure or to feel relieved at its demise. Fun stuff to play with! #art #painting #sketchbook #oilpainting

Two new paintings in the sketchbook. Both of these took about two hours each. Super fun to throw some colour down as always. Also quite enjoying trying to come up with an image that has a feeling to it, even if the image itself is quite rough. And what a challenge to try to make a figure from imagination. Oof, humbling experience. But keen on trying it again and again. Think I might break out the life drawing archives and try to put some of those into paint. Anyways, I'm open to critique on these small paintings, so feel free to comment thoughts, feelings or nothing at all haha If you read all that, thanks for taking the time :) #art #painting #oilpainting #sketchbook

Decided to share this as a work in progress. I painted on this last year for a while before turning the canvas to the wall and then eventually taking it off the stretcher bars. I think I wanted it to be something that the painting was never going to be. And instead of allowing it to be more of what was working well I got frustrated and abandoned it. But I want to finish this. I think time away from it has made me appreciate what it's doing well and I'd like to restretch it and finish it. Anyways, it's currently a wip :) And yes that little bit of canvas thread is the star of the show ✨ #painting #art #oilpainting

A couple little oil paintings from imagination. I really enjoyed working on these, something about having no reference makes painting such a fun challenge. Super keen to fill up this sketchbook with a bunch of similar images! Will definitely be posting more I reckon 🐝 #sketchbook #oilpainting #painting #art

A little sketchbook dump of some drawings I've noodled on recently. All of them feel unfinished but that's why they're in a sketchbook right? Been focusing on using references less and less when I draw. I'm definitely far more interested in the drawing when I don't have a reference, feels like it's mine more so than when I have a reference, even if I take the photo myself...weird how that works. The real trick is doing that with painting haha, but I think that ease in painting from imagination must come with a lot of time and practice painting from reference. The battle continues! 🐝 #art #drawing #moleskine #sketchbookdrawing

Experimented with a new varnish on these two studies from earlier last year. Fun little paintings tho even tho the portraits themselves are somewhat unfinished! #painting #oilpainting #art

These are a couple of tree drawings from when I was in Hobart about a month ago. We went to Port Arthur and the trees were so so cool. I wish I could've spent more time drawing them in the sunshine. #drawing #art #pleinair #sketchbook #sketching
