Rhythm Unleashed: World Dance Day 2026
The National Troupe of Nigeria marked World Dance Day 2026 at the National Theatre, Lagos, in a vibrant celebration of unity and culture, under the leadership of Artistic Director/CEO Hajia Bulama Kultume Gana, fsna.
In collaboration with the Lagos State Arts Council and the Guild of Nigerian Dancers, the event featured goodwill messages from Segun Adefila (National President, GOND), Tairu Ajibode (National Secretary, GOND), Isioma Williams (National President, GOTHAD), and Dr. Yeside Lawal of the Lagos State University Department of Theatre Arts.
As a global tribute to the universal language of movement, the celebration saw young performers shine brilliantly, affirming a promising future for dance in Nigeria.
Where rhythm thrives, culture endures.
Dr. Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), served as the keynote speaker for the opening of the Redeemed International Christian Film Festival (RICFF) held at Glory Arena Redemption Camp, Ogun State on Thursday 30th April 2026. His address focused on the evolution of the faith-based film sector and its need to adopt formal industry structures.
Dr. Husseini observed that while the spiritual foundation of Christian drama is strong, the sector often lacks the scale and reach of the mainstream industry. He advocated for a "non-negotiable" approach to excellence, suggesting that the Church must invest in high-end technical delivery and sophisticated narratives to appeal to a contemporary, diverse audience. He further stressed the importance of digital distribution and the need for the Church to work more closely with professional creatives.
The Executive Director attended the event alongside a delegation of NFVCB staff from the Lagos and Abeokuta offices, reinforcing the Board's support for festivals that promote values of love, redemption, and moral excellence.

I turned up for the 2026 @coalcityfilmfestival and here is excerpts from my speech:
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to the 2026 edition of the Coal City Film Festival taking place in Enugu—my birth state (I was born in the palm wine tapping town of Udi) and a city rich in history, culture, and creative spirit.
Let me begin by sincerely commending the organizers of this festival particularly the festival director Mr Uche Agbo. I must say that your resilience, courage, and unwavering commitment to sustaining this platform are truly commendable. In a landscape where many initiatives struggle to endure, you have not only kept the flame alive but have also positioned the Coal City Film Festival as a must-attend cultural and cinematic event in South East Nigeria. That is no small achievement and I think Mr. Agbo and his team deserve an applause.
Now, this year’s theme, “Local Stories, Global Screens,” could not be more timely or more relevant. At the heart of every enduring film culture lies authenticity—stories that are rooted in our realities, our languages, our struggles, and our triumphs. Narratives that have hugged the global screen or have done well globally, are narratives that are authentic and this is because the world is not looking for imitations; it is looking for truth. And increasingly, we are seeing clear evidence that our local stories can indeed command global attention. Nigerian films such as ‘King of Boys’ by Kemi Adetiba, ‘The Wedding Party’ by Mo Abudu, ‘Anikulapo’ by Kunle Afolayan, ‘Black Book’ by Editi Effiong and Lionheart, by Genevieve Nnaji, and a few others have demonstrated how culturally grounded and gripping stories could travel onto global platforms like Netflix and prestigious festivals such as TIFF. The fact is that the more local a story is in texture, language and cultural truth, the more global its emotional reach can become.
However, as we celebrate storytelling, we must also confront a critical question: How do these stories get seen?

One of my best moments in my second year as CEO of @nfvcb is hosting the Cohorts of the 2026 @multichoicetalentfactorywa
I had the pleasure of receiving students of Multi-Choice Talents Academy led by their amazing and hardworking Academic Director @akaoma . The students visited me in Lagos, to gain deeper insight into the work and mandate of the National Film and Video Censors Board.
During our time together, we had an enlightening conversation about what the Board represents and the critical role we play in shaping responsible storytelling within Nigeria’s film ecosystem.
I walked them through the practical process of film classification, how movies are graded, the structure of the grading sheet, the review considerations involved and how approvals can be processed within a 24 - 48 hours window where applicable.
We also explored how age ratings are determined and why they matter in protecting audiences while guiding creative expression.
Beyond the technical processes, we shared advisory insights, reinforcing the importance of intentional storytelling and regulatory awareness for emerging creatives.
It was truly a rewarding session engaging with young talents eager to understand the intersection between creativity, responsibility and regulation in the film industry.
Watch out for this Cohorts! They are revving to FLY🪰

IBA for Her Regal Majesty @hrmoloritemitope from all of us at @nfvcb ......
Some moments deserve more than applause… they deserve honor
This video is specially dedicated to a mother who embodies grace, royalty and intentional support
Olori's presence at the congratulatory and award ceremony for @toyin_abraham , which held at our South West Zonal Office in Lagos on March 19th, meant everything.
When the call came, you had every reason to rest. You were just returning from a trip, you were tired… yet you showed up not out of obligation but out of conviction. Because you believed in the story and the impact it carries.
That kind of support is rare.
That kind of heart is royal.
You didn’t just present an award… you gave your voice.
You didn’t just attend… you stood with the vision.
And in doing so, you showed us what it truly means to honor deeply and support intentionally.
We came all the way to say it clearly, you are one of us.
When you support, you support deeply.
When you honor, you honor wholeheartedly.
And today, we reflect that same honor back to you.
Thank you for honoring excellence.
Thank you for standing with Nollywood.
Thank you for always showing up when it matters. You did, when we called you last year for the #PAO-NDCRC in November.

This is for you your Regal Majesty Olori Temitope Enitan-Ogunwusi.
When i visited "massive bros" @mofedamijo at home.
If there is anyone that has inspired me as a performing artiste and has been intentional about "following up" on my career progression either as a performer and or as a Culture and film Journalist, then the personality is the "massive bros" whom I simply call "Oose" (Father)
Our first real meet was in 1991 during the sold out stage presentation of Uncle Fred Agbeyegbe's "The King Must Dance Naked" as directed by Uncle Bayo Oduneye of blessed memory and produced by the National Troupe of Nigeria. I played the town crier and felt I was not doing well in the role, but I felt on top of the world, when RMD, indisputably a world class actor, sought me out back stage and said I was doing so well in the role. It was from that point that bros adopted me as a performer and later as a journalist of "good concern".
Upon my appointment in 2024, he was about the first to pull a call through to congratulate and pray for me. He also promised to pay me a visit but couldn't make it because of work schedule.
So I literary took the "mountain" to RMD and he was so excited to receive me and my PA @ayabakegwe and Executive Assistant @arasidorcas . We talked from industry, life and work and I used the opportunity to slip in a big request on behalf of the @nfvcb to which the RMD gave his express approval.
Thank you Oose for the very warm reception and thanks for the autographed book. Those who saw me on a flight to Abuja with the book were so nice to me. Like "you must be a VIP to have an autographed book on RMD"😃😃😃. I should have informed them that I wrote the very first chapter in the book....
But watch this space....RMD will headline a major event of the NFVCB!
