After years of planning and persistence, the Newport Harbor Dredging Project can officially begin. This milestone—more than a decade in the making—will preserve the health, beauty, and navigability of our city’s crown jewel, Newport Harbor. My sincere thanks to the relentless Harbor Commission, current and past Councils, and the many federal and local agencies who helped make this possible. Together, we’re protecting and preserving our harbor for generations to come. Let the dredge begin. 💪🏼🇺🇸⚓️

And the timing couldn’t be better, the harbor is freshly dredged, cleaner than ever, and ready for a summer on the water. Between the dredging efforts and the new Upper Bay trash collector project, the City is making massive investments to keep Newport Harbor the gem of the California coast for generations to come.

Let’s talk about CA’s High-Speed Rail to Nowhere🚄 💨
Nearly 20 years ago, voters approved a project promised at $33.5 billion. Today? Estimates have exploded to as much as $231 billion, and not a single inch of operational high-speed track connects Californians. Just delays, excuses, and endless cost overruns.
Now Sacramento is proposing legislation that would expand the powers of the High-Speed Rail Authority’s Inspector General while simultaneously shielding records, audits, and internal documents from public scrutiny. Because apparently the answer to failure is less transparency.
Last month, I traveled to Japan, a country that began construction on the Shinkansen in 1959 and had it fully operational by the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Five years from construction to reality. Today, their rail delays are measured in seconds.🇯🇵
Meanwhile, California can’t even connect the Central Valley after two decades.
This project has become the perfect example of government inefficiency: massive promises, runaway spending, zero accountability, and taxpayers left holding the bill.
Californians deserve infrastructure that actually gets built, not political vanity projects buried under bureaucracy and excuses.

Had the opportunity to tour the Orange County Sanitation District with Councilwoman @michelle4newport and it’s nothing short of impressive.
OC San handles wastewater for 2.6 million residents, treating over 180 million gallons every day , turning what we flush — into clean water that protects our coastline and environment.
This is critical infrastructure. This is public health. This is environmental stewardship at the highest level.
