Most people drive right past these oil wells on PCH without realizing they’re actually owned by the City of Newport Beach.
The city has operated them since the 1950s, and they still produce thousands of barrels of oil every year, primarily used to make asphalt for roads. Last year alone, the wells generated close to $1 million in revenue for the city.
Not quite Landman… but Newport Beach definitely has its own version of oil country. 🛢️🌴
Only in Newport do ocean views, luxury real estate, and oil wells exist on the same stretch of road.
Special thanks to Mark Vukojevic, Utilities Director, his team and also @nbfoundation for organizing this exclusive tour for DCP Alumni. 🌊🛢️🏠

Grateful to have attended last Friday’s Speak Up Newport Mayor’s Dinner at the VEA Hotel — a beautiful evening celebrating community, thoughtful dialogue, and the people who care so deeply about Newport Beach.
We were especially proud to see our new Mayor, Lauren Kleiman, recognized, and inspired by her vision for her time in office — strengthening community connection, thoughtful stewardship of our coastal environment, and preserving the character that makes our city so special. Her message that “there’s no place like Newport” was felt throughout the evening and reminded us all why we’re so lucky to call this community home.
Feeling energized by the conversations, connections, and shared commitment to Newport Beach’s future.
