From 17 to 24 February, KINOTITA found a powerful home at Kunstencentrum BUDA, with the foundational support of newpolyphonies.
For years, BUDA has built bridges between artistic creation, pedagogy and research, nurturing art schools, experimental labs, and collaborations. newpolyphonies and KINOTITA felt deeply at home in this environment.
The first four days were dedicated to an assembly of KINOTITA’s core artists: Anne-Laure Pigache, Anissa Rouas, Elisa Kühnl, Doreen Kutzke, Myriam Van Imschoot, and Jule Flierl.
These days became a vibrant exchange of methods and artistic imaginaries: language work and parrotting techniques, ritual callings and resonances, Concert of the Senses, protest slogans and practices of resistance, song transmission, and Shomyo chanting.
For one day, guest artist Myriam Pruvot joined us to share whistling techniques, frog-chorus-inspired polyphony, and her practice of syncretism and hybridity.
20 February became the hinge into the second chapter of the residency.
That evening, the YouYou Group presented Segen in BUDA’s beautiful entrance rotunda for an audience gathering after iftar during Ramadan.
From there, YouYou Group and Glossa entered an intensive four-day encounter of workshops, shared practices, and mutual listening.
This laid the first stone of Titans, the first KINOTITA co-creation, under the artistic direction of Anissa Rouas, Myriam Van Imschoot, Doreen Kutzke and Elisa Kühnl.
Throughout the residency, generous meals and iftars, prepared by Leyla Mouradi, with one special iftar by Fatima, became key moments of togetherness. Special thanks as well to Fatima for helping host us in the convent.
Research, hospitality, pedagogy, artistic risk, and collective voice:
this is how futures begin.

From the Middle East to Turtle Island, from the Basque country to Central and South Asia, the zaghareet (Arabic) or youyou (French), is a high-pitched, trilling sound typically used by women to convey strong emotions like joy or sadness.
In Le Cadeau (2018), Myriam Van Imschoot intertwines the stories and experiences of four women whose portraits reflect tradition, transmission, as well as personal memories and shared cultural practices.

KINOTITA in Montpellier for EXERCICE COMMUN, in collaboration with the Master EXERCE program at Agora, Cité Internationale de la Danse.
Over two weeks, voice, body, sound and listening became shared tools to explore what it means to compose together. Not as a fixed outcome, but as an evolving process shaped through encounter, adaptation and exchange.
Working across choreography and vocal practice, compositions emerged between individual and collective bodies, in relation to space and those present. Scores functioned as proposals — invitations to act, respond and transform.
Authorship became multiple and situated, carried by the group.
Presented across the spaces of the Agora in a durational evening, the work invited the audience into this shifting field of relations.
This project marks an important step in KINOTITA’s ongoing exploration of composing ensemble.
With thanks to Anne Kerzerho, Lisa Combettes, La Bulle Bleue, Alix Demorant and the students of Master exerce Agora cité internationale de la danse & Université Montpellier Paul Valéry. In paricular merci à [names of students with which we cocreated]

WELCOME KINOTITA. A new platform for voice artists working in groups as sonic communities.
KINOTITA emerges from a clear necessity. Work around collective and radical vocality is essential, yet often remains invisible, especially when carried by women and communities. At the same time, it holds a wealth of knowledge and practices to be shared and further developed.
With KINOTITA, we engage with “the art of composing ensemble”: ways of making, listening and organizing together where authorship is collaborative and emerges from the group itself. The voice becomes not only sound, but also a social space.
The core group brings together six artists from Belgium, Germany and France: Elisa Kühnl, Myriam Van Imschoot, Jule Flierl, Anissa Rouas, Anne-Laure Pigache and Doreen Kutzke, in close connection with two affiliated ensembles, YouYou Group (Brussels) and Glossa (Köln).
KINOTITA grows through exchange, building a network of voices and practices across contexts.

TOMORROW 📣
IKLECTIK LIVE presents PanOrama (Dali de Saint Paul, Lia Mazzari and Kathy Hinde) + Tomoko Hojo, Wan-Chien Cheng, Myriam Van Imschoot, Cara Tolmie, Anna Holveck
An evening of expanded listening.
ARTIST FOCUS:
Tomoko Hojoo - A sound artist whose works take various forms, composition, score-based or improvised performance, installation and academic research. Although the methodologies are changed each time, the main concept underneath Hojoo’s works and researches are consistent. That is ‘to focus on (women’s) voices that have been silenced and to propose alternative possibilities.
Wan-Chien Cheng - A Taiwanese musician and sound artist. Trained as a classical musician and completed the MA in Sound Arts at the University of the Arts London. Her works span the audible, inaudible and visual perceptions between sound, music and language that involve in cultural events, social phenomena, environmental subjects and the human.
Myriam Van Imschoot - A Brussels-based artist, using the voice as her main medium in video, performance and sound installations. Van Imschoot’s work is characterised by a movement between the institutional field and the medias, through which she experiments with already existing contexts, if not creating her own.
Cara Tolmie - An artist who spends much of her time oscillating between contexts as a musician, performer, DJ, educator and researcher. Her works have been performed and exhibited widely and internationally at art galleries, music festivals, biennials, conferences and in the public space – both as solo presentations and collaborative projects.
Anna Holveck - A visual artist, sound creator, and researcher, Anna Holveck explores — through performance, video, and installation—the place of the voice within the body, space, and image. She has conducted theoretical research grounded in artistic practice, focusing on how the voice can be entrusted with a specific power when the body that carries it is no longer visibly present.

A quiet tuning - practices of listening
This is not a concert of loud sounds, but of tuning in. Through fragile, slow, and unstable
works by women composers—text scores, graphic notation, voice, and quiet, tender
listening practices—it creates a space to notice what usually passes unheard, between
sound, voice, and silence.
Featuring: Tomoko Hojo, Wan-Chien Cheng, Myriam Van Imschoot, Cara Tolmie & Anna Holveck. This collaboration is supported by Harmonic Ito Foundation and CRiSAP University of the Arts London.
