📣 Announcement After 15 years as New Light's patron, Valeria Sykes is stepping down. Since the charity's founding in 2010, Valeria, through her dedication and contribution, has paid a vital role in establishing New Light as a leading supporter of artistic talent in the North of England and for this we express our heartfelt appreciation! New Light is made up of a small team who are passionate about the visual arts. We also rely solely on donations and sadly without financial support the charity faces closure by the end of this year. As such, we are seeking new patrons and sponsors! There are so many benefits to getting involved. You would be investing in the future of talented artists in the region and enabling us to fund bursaries, hold exhibitions to showcase Northern talent, find new audiences, support community and school art curriculums and enhance wellbeing through access to art and creative pursuits. We love hearing news of new artists spaces and look forward to the opening of ‘Bee Sting Cake’, at new gallery and studio space @theshopsheffield , run by @njgrindrod . The inaugural exhibition showcases the work of 20 artists who live and work in Sheffield, including work from Mandy Payne and Joanna Whittle, who have both exhibited numerous times with New Light. Congratulations to Peter Davis whose work features in ‘*This Sound Is Purple’, a group exhibition at @sqft.space which pairs visual art with immersive audio. Congratulations to @louisa_boyd whose work features in the current 'Your Salford 100: Contemporary Narratives' exhibition at @salford_museum . Louisa has been shortlisted for both the New Light Prize Exhibition and Summer Exhibition. Inspired by cartography, both celestial and terrestrial, Louisa's work considers the persistent human desire to belong. By layering abstract, drawn imagery made with traditional drawing tools and printmaking processes with more abstract painterly marks, organic marbled patterns and geometric forms, the outcomes are a visual fusion of historic and contemporary ideas. Sculpture North is an exciting summer exhibition celebrating contemporary sculpture and 3D practice. Set within @sculpturegalleryleeds in the vibrant city of Leeds, this exhibition will showcase the diversity of sculptural practice, offering a fresh and compelling exploration of form, materiality and artistic innovation. Last year’s exhibition was a highlight of 2025 for The Sculpture Gallery (TSG) and so it has been expanded in reach through this open call and extended to 2 months. Here are some of the stunning pieces from last year by artists including @bailey_studio @melka_sculpture @achipofftheoldrockltd @frippyjamesonsculpture @arabellabrookeart alongside work by the gallery owners. TSG are seeking work that explores form, space, material, process and concept in compelling ways. Submissions are welcome from both emerging and established artists. What TSG Are Looking For:- Freestanding or plinth mounted sculpture Wall based sculptural works Three dimensional media including traditional, contemporary, foraged or mixed materials Experimental or interdisciplinary three dimensional practice All materials will be considered provided they are safe, stable and suitable for gallery display. Work that is not three dimensional or is of excessive size or weight making it impractical to display within The Sculpture Gallery will not be accepted. Congratulations to Jéréme Crow who has been shortlisted to the RA Summer Exhibition with the piece ‘Steve’ @jeremecrow was shortlisted for the first-ever New Light Summer Exhibition in 2025. Born in Carlisle and now based on the east coast of England, Jéréme creates deeply introspective works that explore themes of experience, nostalgia and melancholy. His paintings often return to the recurring motif of self-portraiture, allowing him to examine and express the complexities of identity and emotion. Through his work, Jéréme delves into the emotional landscapes of memory and personal reflection, creating art that resonates with viewers on a personal level. Congratulations once again, always great to see Northern Artists represented!
