An exciting update from @neutral_edison – the crane is up to build the tallest mass timber building in the country! Currently standing at 225 feet, the crane will eventually extend to a height of 425 feet to build the 31-floor Edison project.

Last month, we broke ground on Neutral 1005 N Edison St – our flagship development and most integrated project to date. Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Alderman Robert Bauman spoke to the positive impact this project will have on our local communities, while Neutral CEO Nate Helbach and Neutral Partner and CPO Daniel Glaessl shared insights on the development process and design. With innovative sustainability and wellness features, this building is designed to bring a holistic lifestyle to the residents who will call it home. It represents the culmination of six years of iteration, collaboration, and bold thinking from the Neutral team. We look forward to welcoming our first residents to their new homes in 2027. Watch this space.

Monday marked a significant milestone as we broke ground on Neutral 1005 N Edison St in Milwaukee. This project marks the beginning of a new chapter for Juneau Town, with 353 new homes to support local businesses and strengthen connections to jobs, in what will be the largest mass timber building in the U.S. @neutral_edison represents the culmination of six years of work. It’s our largest undertaking yet, and we’re proud to take this next step with the Milwaukee community, whilst pursuing Passive House certification (one of the leading and strictest certifications for energy-efficient buildings) and the Living Building Challenge (focused on sustainable buildings and overall resident well-being). More than a sustainable structure, Neutral Edison is built around the principles of wellness, longevity, and intentional living – a blueprint for how we believe buildings should be built and people should live. A huge thanks to all who came out to show their support, especially to Mayor Cavalier Johnson, Alderman Robert Bauman, and to our partners in this endeavor @cdsmithconstruction @hartshorne_plunkard @hdla_design @forefrontstructural @arupamericas

By learning from nature, Neutral is able to build large-scale mass timber buildings safely. Tune in to expert David Barber speaking with our CEO Nate Helbach about how trees protect themselves from wildfires, and what this means for our structures. Find the full episode at the link in bio.

At Neutral, we don’t just say our buildings are fire-safe, we prove it. To be sure, we conducted a rigorous fire test on a column, beam, and deck assembly built to full structural capacity, mirroring how loads are distributed in the building at @neutral_edison What did this involve? Applying 14 tons per square foot of pressure (equivalent to the weight of 20 elephants). Then, we exposed the structure to sustained temperatures of 2550°F for three hours. The result? The assembly passed. After three hours of extreme heat, the column, beam, and deck were still structurally sound. Visit the link in bio to tune in to our latest podcast with David Barber, a fire safety engineer who has dedicated his career to building mass timber safely. We unpack the common misconception that timber can’t be fire-safe, and discuss what this means for the future of sustainable architecture.
