We had a great week at ULI Spring Meeting in Nashville last week! We were proud to be a part of various tours and speaking panel, highlighting work that continues to shape the city’s spaces and neighborhoods.
Principal Mary Miller spoke to the progress and what’s to come at Fort Negley Park; Principal Robert Whittemore shared the vision for the completed Metro Water Services Park; Partner Chris Barkley showcased both the completed and ongoing work at Centennial Park; and Partner TJ Ellison walked attendees through the Werthan Development in Germantown. Thank you to everyone who toured with us and joined the conversation!
We’re looking forward to today’s Bisnow’s Dallas-Fort Worth Multifamily Annual Conference alongside so many leaders helping shape the future of the DFW market. Excited for a day of conversations around growth, development, investment, and the trends continuing to impact multifamily across the region. Proud to represent HDLA at this year’s event.

We are thrilled to be part of this year’s ULI Spring Meeting!
Our team will be attending and contributing to several tours throughout the week, where we’ll have the opportunity to share work we’ve been involved in and the thinking behind it, while continuing to learn from others shaping the built environment. We hope to see you there!

As the weather warms up, we’re taking a moment to look back at some of the garden spaces we’ve had the opportunity to shape over the years. From the Cheekwood Children’s Garden to the Desert Botanical Garden and the Morton Arboretum, each project reflects a unique approach to connecting people with nature.
While each setting is distinct, they all share a common goal: to invite exploration, spark curiosity, and create meaningful experiences rooted in the landscape. It’s always rewarding to see these gardens in use and continuing to inspire over time.
Headed to the Nashville Area Chamber’s 33rd Annual Leadership Study Mission in Miami to see how the city is shaping growth, strengthening community, and planning for what’s ahead, with a focus on tourism, transit-oriented development, downtown activation, and investments in arts, culture, and childcare.
Looking forward to a week of fresh perspective, meaningful conversations, and bringing actionable ideas back to Nashville.
Earth Month is a time to recognize and honor the landscapes and systems that shape our work!
As landscape architects, we work with systems that change over time, land, water, and living materials that require thoughtful, long-term stewardship.
Our role is to design places that perform, adapt, and support both people and the environments they inhabit.
We’re grateful to contribute to that work, and honored to see it continue well beyond this month!

We’re proud to have worked alongside @eoaarchitects and @manuelzeitlinarchitects on The Westerly House in Nashville, a mixed-use community connecting Wedgewood Houston and the 8th Ave Corridor. Officially opened earlier this year, the project brings 242 residential units, including traditional and co-living apartments, to this growing neighborhood.
From concept to completion, we are grateful to see the vision come to life. New streetscapes, a central courtyard, and layered outdoor spaces from the podium to the rooftop create places to gather, work, and unwind, bringing energy and connection to the site.
We’re growing! HDLA is looking for a Landscape Architect / Project Manager in Dallas. This role is suited for professionals with 4–10 years of experience leading projects from concept through construction. If you’re passionate about design and creating meaningful places, we’d love to connect.

Excited to have our work on the Tucker Ranch Health and Wellness Park featured by the West Orange Times Observer as this new wellness destination takes shape. As Laura Coar, the City of Winter Garden’s Parks and Recreation Director, shared, the park “basically addresses everything that is health related, whether it’s your mental health, your physical health…or just having time for yourself.”

Great projects are built on strong partnerships.
R.C. Mathews is grateful to work alongside HDLA and Metro Parks Nashville on improvements at Fort Negley Park and Centennial Park, two community-focused projects that will enhance Nashville for years to come.
The Fort Negley project includes new landscaping and hardscaping, a two-acre Memorial Lawn, and the transformation of former Greer Stadium parking lots into native meadow space. Updates will also restore historic 1930s driveways and enhance accessibility and the overall visitor experience.
HDLA played a key role in the LEED Silver–certified Science Building on the MTSU campus, designing the student quadrangle and courtyard to support connection, innovation, and growth. Since 2014, this 250,000 SF facility has served over 13,000 students each year, advancing STEM education and strengthening Tennessee’s future.
Grateful for the collaboration that made this project possible.
