05-09-26 Laurelhurst Seattle Protest and march through the Laurelhurst neighborhood opposing the voluntary agreement between the Laurelhurst Community Council and Seattle Children's Hospital, which disallows Life Flight medical helicopters from landing directly at SCH, except in the most extreme emergency situations. The voluntary agreement is tentatively suspended, pending review by the City and Department of Construction and Inspections. The LCC agreement stipulated that ‘non-emergency’ life flights must land at Graves Field, adjacent to the UW campus. Patients would then be transferred to an ambulance to endure a 10+ minute ride to the Children’s Hospital. The agreement also insisted that SCH provide a justification and report to an LCC ‘Medical Review Committee’ to review for each flight. Laurelhurst Community Council has also prohibited hospital employees from parking in and around the Laurelhurst neighborhood and has also prevented expansion of the hospital. Seattle Children’s Hospital is one of the premier pediatric hospitals in the nation; serving not just Washington, but four other states in the region: Alaska, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. @gem.seattle

05-06-26 Another visit to Gas Works Park today to observe the ongoing partial demolition of the Cracking Towers. Plans for the partial demolition were twice rejected by the Landmarks Preservation Board. However, instead of seeking a compromise on the demolition plan, Seattle Parks and Recreation subverted the Landmarks Preservation Board and instead obtained a 'hazard correction order' from the Department of Construction and Inspections on March 30; which allows for the demolition of "hazardous structures". The permit for demolition was then granted in mid-April. Historic Seattle and the Landmarks Preservation Board have expressed some doubts about the decision making process that resulted in this remarkably expedient and thorough demolition of Seattle history. The City and Seattle Parks and Recreation have also been under pressure to address the dangerous structures on the cracking towers ever since the death of Mattheis Johnson (15 years old at the time), who fell 50 feet off of a tower platform last July in 2025. #seattlehistory #seattlearchitecture #seattleparks

This retired 747-400 fuselage (N178UA flown by United Airlines), sourced from the aircraft boneyard at Victorville Airport (SCLA) is currently being installed between two towers under construction within the Denny Triangle neighborhood at 1200 Stewart Avenue. The project, known in its entirety as ‘WB1200’, or ‘1200 Stewart’, began construction in May 2018 and was designed by Henrequiz Partners Architects, with Ankrom Moisan as the architect of record. This project has faced numerous delays caused by subcontractor pay disputes with the original developer, Westbank Corporation, and general contractor, Graham Construction. As well as delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the concrete workers strike in 2022. Both Graham Construction, and Westbank eventually stepped away from the project. It was then overtaken by Icon West Construction, JTM Construction and OPTrust, a Toronto-based developer and pension funds management company. Real estate development firm Cobalt is managing the project construction on behalf of OPTrust. Earlier, between 2007-2009, another similar project at the same address was proposed by the developer Lexas Construction. However, that original plan fell through in large part because of the 2008 Great Recession. It is currently estimated that both towers, and the 747 fuselage installation will be completed this year. Both towers will be 47 stories tall with 1048 residential units in total. These residential units will rest atop a 3-story ‘podium’ with space devoted to retail and other commercial amenities; including a Trader Joe’s grocery store. #seattlearchitecture #architecture #seattle #boeing #boeing747

04-03-26 Henry M. Jackson Federal Building and vicinity. Rally and march in support of trans joy, visibility, and resistance. Beautiful chalk artwork was drawn in trans flag colors around the federal building before the march. While the march was happening, a trans janitor working at the federal building was compelled by SPD to wash away the artwork. When the march returned to the federal building, roughly a third of the artwork had already been washed away… Attempts were made to draw more artwork to replace the art that was washed away before the group disbanded for the night. @gem.seattle @seattlehandmaids @defundmusk @assignedgayatband

Some flowers at Kobe Terrace. One of my favorite spots downtown. Along the northern edge of Chinatown-International District. I should go back in a couple weeks or three when there will be a greater variety of flowers blooming.
