*i would like to keep this as transparent as possible.* nervous surface, as a band, is going on "hiatus". nothing is certain right now & we don't know how long this break will last. we don't know if we're gonna perform in NC again, or on the road in 2026. nothings ever certain. we have plans for the future and AREN'T breaking up, just taking a step back. we'd like to keep touring, release more music, and be more active on social media. plans change often & rapidly. our plan for this year was this: multiple tours, record next batch of music, and grow on multiple fronts. all 3 of these things are still possible.
here's what's changed:
our june northeast tour has been cancelled, as well as our recording trip to San Diego to record our next album with Jordan, as we typically do. all of our shows between now and the end of june are all cancelled.
we can postpone touring and recording for later this year. we can prioritize ourselves and our wellbeing before this project. having to cancel gigs sucks a lot, & i feel like an ass for it. all of this is an absolute last resort option for us, i promise.
i've been limited on work since breaking my arm at the end of february. i'm grateful that i'm close to full recovery, but this doesn't change the impact that the arm injury has had on me.
for now, nervous surface is nothing but an online band and home-recording project. nervous surface is not ending or breaking up.
when starting this project, i commited to taking care of the entire thing. not just when whats right in front of me is the "good" stuff but also when it feels "bad" or "ugly". i'm not ashamed of the lows we've been through, & i'm glad we've lived thru some tough experiences tht have helped shape us as a band. as far as what we're mostly focusing on for the rest of spring, we're hosting a fundraiser for immigration advocacy in june & putting together a bandcamp exclusive compilation that will be available same day. there are lots of artists involved and i'm stoked. shout out to @nc.scene for helping us organize and put it all together & @thedenshows for letting us have the fest there on June 14th !!

A music & arts festival with artists representing the North Carolina arts scene as well as some artists from out of state.
ALL PROCEEDS RAISED FROM THIS FESTIVAL WILL BE DONATED TO THE IMMIGRATION ADVOCATES NETWORK!
The Immigration Advocates Network creates & shares legal resources with nonprofits, pro bono lawyers, and immigrants. Donations help this network empower more people with information that is timely & reliable.
This festival features 8 of the very many artists that will be participating in a cover song compilation to be released on the same day, exclusively on bandcamp. There will also be physical CDs available for purchase at the event. All proceeds from this compilation will also be donated to the Immigration Advocates Network.
There will also be visual art available for purchase, and an intermission for hot dogs and hamburgers. Perhaps we will get some veggie dogs and veggie burgers too!
We can do great things when we come together, and art can be the most powerful thing on earth. It is time to take action - use your voice and get to this!!!

my car was totaled :( was giving a work friend a ride home. luckily it wasn't my fault & insurance covered it - got a decent sized check in the mail tho !! instead of being smart, i ended up using the money from that check to get our first album pressed to vinyl (and inherited my lil bro's minivan thx lil bro) 🙏 this wreck was just a week after the album was released! certainly caught me off guard but turned out to be a blessing in disguise 🥲
anyway, that's the brief summarized story of how a small DIY band w/ less than 100 monthlies managed to do somethin like this :'-) would you say this caption was too long??? p.s. do not try this at home, there was nothing professional ab it i just got lucky !!!!!

i wanted to think this was a real card, i really did. the way it looked at first glance had me thinking it was so cool and glamorous. but the reality is that it was fake and useless ..... racing is a song about ppl reading into things and assuming how you're doing or what you need when they never even ask or try to understand. racing is a song about others trying to define who you are & what you are worth. stuff like this can cause an individual to become hyper-aware & experience negative "racing" thoughts. i'm sure a lot of people can relate to this one. personally, i think this song has the best guitar riff i have ever written. love it a lot. maybe i'll upload a playthru vid of it at some point, at least the riff. i don't want to let others define me. i wanna feel like i do belong to myself.
