My work is safely delivered to @homemcr ready for the install of the Manchester Open, a glorious celebration of Manchester art attended by so many over the course of the exhibition. Catching my breath after a fabulous bank holiday weekend at @saltaireinspired Open House Art Trail. Hundreds of people came and chatted, many seeing my work IRL for the first time so it was great for them to be able to touch as well as see and discover more about my unique process. As well as brooches, wrist warmers and small works, several sculptures found new homes 💛 Thank you to the @saltaireinspired team for their support and organisation especially for pairing me with @al_lotment as host/resident artist and @salt_pixels and @abstractcrowds as house mates. It was superb and I hope to return in the future to share some of my other work. Having a lovely weekend in venue 18 (50 George Street) for @saltaireinspired Art Trail. Resident artist @al_lotment has kindly allowed me to hammer lots of nails in to display my work. Art trails are fantastic for people to envisage art in their own homes. We also have @abstractcrowds intricate abstracts that grace this year's publicity and @salt_pixels cyanotypes. Come say hi. To finish off #findamakerweek, we were asked to post something we are proud to own by a fellow @find.amaker . I discovered @svenamels at GNCCF @great_northern_events . I loved her work but particularly fell in love with her cat pin badges. After the event I got in touch and asked whether next time she made a batch, could she do a couple of one-eyed ones in honour of my beautiful pirate cat Wanda and she did. 😻 This is one of the bonuses of buying from real makers as given a bit of notice, they might be able to do one of their designs in a particular size or colour not currently in stock. It is always worth asking. Today #findamakerweek prompt is before/after but I decided to go for after/before. Can you tell that my textiles all come from old clothing and my sculptures combine this with papercrete (pulped waste paper + cement) cast in household plastic waste and litter? Recent casts made for my solo show "The Problem Lies Upstream" @harris_museum were made from pulping the remaining leaflets from the original art trail in an attempt to limit waste and work more sustainably. ♻️ #recycledmaterials #mixedmedia #contemporarytextileart #concretelittergirl @find.amaker

Yesterday #findamakerweek asked for a peek behind the scenes. This weekend I'm taking part in @saltaireinspired Art Trail and tomorrow is installation day. Although I have been busy with gallery exhibitions, this is my first trail/fair of the year so busy finding where I stashed everything, labels, pricelists, social media and making sure my @sumup still talks to my phone. Unfortunately more of being a maker is organisation than making but I'm all packed and so this afternoon I will enjoy some stitching before attending a friend's PV at a local gallery. Looking forward to a weekend of sharing my work, my process and my inspiration plus sharing a venue with fellow artists. Today @find.amaker asked for my inspiration. My work is inspired by the colours, tones and textures of nature particularly where they form a contrast. I am best known for my coastal work featuring lichen and limpets but I also make work inspired by woodland walks, edgelands and nature in the city. 💛💚 #findamakerweek #myinspiration #inspiredbynature #lichenlove #textureforstitch
