Statecrafting: critical design exercises in sovereignty Workshop by Jeremiasz Rzenno @piescidelko 07–11 April 2025 Aalto University, Finland This workshop explores the intersection of speculative design, cultural critique, and political imagination through the lens of sovereignty and statehood. Drawing from Peter Frase’s Four Futures, we will critically examine how resource abundance or scarcity, combined with egalitarian or hierarchical structures, shapes possible socio-political landscapes. Students will engage in a series of critical design exercises, using speculation, designerly investigations, and myth-production to interrogate dominant narratives of power, governance, and responsibility. By working through Frase’s four future scenarios—rentism, communism, socialism, and exterminism—participants will prototype alternative visions of sovereignty, considering how design can challenge and reframe debates about political economies and systemic control. Key concepts such as statecraft, governance, infrastructure, power, and political aesthetics will be explored through hands-on speculative methods, resulting in artifacts, narratives, and experimental models of post-capitalist statehood. Students will work individually, using mixed media approaches (drawing, model-making, generative media, and performative storytelling) to materialize their speculative propositions. These explorations will not remain abstract concepts—they will be translated into speculative consumer products, turning political ideologies into items on the shelves of a store in their imagined society.

Do Buddhas Dream of Electric Sheep? 🌀🐑 Workshop by Milan Kroulík @milankroulikav 05 April 2025, 16:00—17:30, Śnienie II exhibition space @u_jazdowski . In this workshop, we will experience and experiment with how technology and dreams intersect in Buddhist worlds. There, dreaming and waking, reality and representation, inside and outside of a person are not divided as binaries. Rather what is crucial are causes and effects, which brings such matters closer to each other than many of us take as self-evident. E.g., the Thai artist Apichatpong Weerasethakul works at the nexus of dreaming, sleeping and cinema. He creates films and installations qua techno-cultural objects with the intent of having other effects than what we might strictly take as art. Inspired by his work, the activities of watching moving images and dreaming, as well as the environments and technological mediation they occur through will be analyzed collectively and related to Buddhist speculative futurisms.

☁️Kolektyw Nerdka i U–jazdowski zapraszają na wystawę wideo „Śnienie II” (14/03—06/04) „Śnienie” to wystawa wideo artów, animacji i filmów eksperymentalnych, które podejmują tematy m.in. technologicznego mistycyzmu, postpracy, realizmu spekulatywnego, queerowych ekologii oraz relacjach między ludzkimi i nieludzkimi bytami. Wydarzenie jest kontynuacją projektu „Śnienie” — otwartego naboru prac wideo, w ramach którego zostało wyłonionych kilkanaście prac eksplorujących idee „śnienia”. Kuratorski koncept przeglądu nawiązuje do idei „społecznego śnienia” (ang. social dreaming) autorstwa Stephena Duncombe’a. Argumentując, że „fantazja i spektakl stały się domeną faszyzmu”, teoretyk, performer i aktywista twierdzi, że lewica powinna „budować politykę, która uwzględnia marzenia senne i tworzyć spektakle, nadającym tym marzeniom formę”. Koncepcja społecznego śnienia ukazuje stan kolektywnego wyobrażania/marzenia sobie jako katalizator przemian,zachęcając do „odzyskania” potencjałów radykalnej wyobraźni i wykorzystania jej do transformacji skostniałych systemów społecznych, kulturowych i politycznych. DELULU SMART HOUSE 📦📦📦 As @nerdkacollective , we were invited to create the third part of the LARP—a dream of artificial intelligence. We wrote our own dreaming network, which generated a narrative that we intertwined with our own intutive texts, shaping it into Baltazar’s Dream—first as Delulu Smart House, and later as The Dream of Oblivion Forge. The fusion of advanced technologies and artistic practice leads to a unique experience that raises profound questions about the future of humanity and technology. Nerds! From the depths of our cyber_hearts, we want to thank you for all of the over 100 submissions we received in the open call. The selection process was really challenging – we spent several days watching, discussing, and thinking about every single work. Every submission was incredibly valuable and meaningful to us. We tried to create a program that’s as diverse as possible, assessing conceptual value, formal experiments, queerness, and the weird wonders that evoke from it.
