𝘈 𝘊𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘭𝘦 𝘐𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦 𝘋𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘦, my show in conjunction and collaboration with a performance by Martin Rovan, is now open by appointment through May 9 @affair______________
This is a play composed of a premise, a prelude, and an undefined number of scenes.
XXIII: Late afternoon. A bed in the public square. A public square being any place where it is forbidden to walk around naked.
M approaches the bed. Undresses. Kneels on the bed.
Part of the bed always remains sunlit. Proceeding through the monologue, M knee-walks toward the light.
thousands thanks to @martinrovan for the inspiration and the trust, and to @lenapfaeffli@clvo77@iskall_165 for the thoughtful curation

"For the epigraph of his 1974 book Libidinal Economy, Jean François Lyotard adopted a slightly reworked version of a sentence originally appearing in Stendhal’s 1822 De l'Amour, specifically in a chapter entitled ‘Des Courts’. Inscribing his “livre méchant” in the conviction that “[w]ho knows not how to hide knows not how to love,” Lyotard acknowledged concealment as a crucial and generative force underlying the non-plus-ultra of relations. Somewhat similarly yet with drastically divergent consequences, what Stendhal had found in the Provençal tradition of courtly love poetry and conception of “amor de lonh” (distant love) was an exemplary form for his own theory of ‘crystallization:’ the process by which lovers work in absence, idealizing their beloved through imagination and psychosomatic projection and eventually establishing perfect objects of desire (and sustainment). The Joys emerges from this complex libidinal genealogy as an attempt to expose intimacy’s double role: generation and reification.
[...] The space is scored by a seemingly endless overlay of field recordings, sex tapes, youtube and social media autoplays, music tracks abruptly cut short. Still frames from a rose bush filmed by the artist in his hometown show the coexistence in a single plant of the three stages of flowering: budding, blooming, and decay. A translucent liquid poured all over the gallery floor pools and crystallizes over the course of days, slowly flowing underneath screens that
function as framing devices for the liquid’s coagulations as well as for the traces left by the already evaporated water. Including electrolytes, amino acids, lactic acid, urea and other
chemicals dissolved in running water, this liquid solution replicates the chemical
composition of human sweat, functioning as a phantom of corporeal balance dynamics. Fatigue, pleasure, or exercise. The stress of repression, or the joy of release"
Above is a video walkthrough of the space, recorded on July 9th. The Joys was on view at Aktionshaus, Berlin, June-July 2025

always had and likely will always have a hard time explaining what I do. "What kind of art do you make?" "Interdisciplinary assemblages exposing the intimate metaphysics that grounds discourse" is a turn-off to most conversations. Thankfully, there are images like these I can return to. What if basically the work was just an edge, the bankside of a river? Can one, and must one really reduce flow to description?
all praise goes to each and all of the activators, practitioners, performers and readers that lived The Joys with me. Begin and end with this title. Remind ourselves of the joys we nurture
we have so much material it'll take some days to unfold, but for now, here with

a very special thank you to @angelpaingel and @beatbude of @aktionshaus_ 🕊 two incredibly special humans, truly unique exhibitors, and wonderful collaborators
The Joys is now open by appointment only through July 25th. The physical installation has been disassembled and transposed into a series of 10 Secure Digital Memory Cards, each containing the exhibition’s soundscape. These are available for pick up at @aktionshaus_ through July 25th.
The soundscape is a 6-hours-long track representing the world as it may be perceived from within personal boundaries: a psychotic/ecstatic layering of archival sounds, field recordings, sex tapes, youtube and social media autoplays, music, and the obsessive repetition of a line of text: “My heritage products have helped shape the world I live in today and continue to resonate with the public, and inspire you.”
thank you to @aktionshaus_@beatbude@angelpaingel
You hear this now, yet stay silent. 1
Long-suffering and with so much sense in your heart, and always speaking the truth yourself. 1
You won’t always be silent, will you? 1
For Marx, class consciousness emerges when workers recognize their shared position within the structure of labor relations. This collective awareness is not just descriptive, but transformative, it enables the possibility of proletarian revolution and the reappropriation of the means of production. Similarly, situating my own experiences in connection to other people’s is a necessary first step toward understanding how my identities are shaped by – and, in turn, shape – the conditions I live under. 2
In light of this, I ask you: what does it mean to undergo the all-encompassing, turbulent experience of being human in the late stages of capitalism? What does it do to my sense of self, community, and possibility? 2
My strategy is comprised of six long-term areas of focus that help me deliver my vision and mission. All are centred on maintaining and growing my core franchises and securing growth opportunities through
advancing my three strategic priorities, whilst demonstrating my behaviours in all that I do. 3
My wrong was that I sought not in my love itself, but in things it had created, those delights, heights, and perceptions of what was true and right, and in this way I collapsed into sufferings, embarrassments, and errors. Praise and thanks be to you, who are my softness, my opening, my pride, my conviction, and my faithfulness, thanks be to you for your gifts; preserve them for me, and by doing this you will preserve me, and what you have given me will grow and come to fulfillment, and I will be with you, because it is your gift that I exist at all. 1 — from Crisis of Representation, companion text to The Joys. 1: edited excerpt from St Augustine's Confessions; 2: edited excerpt from AWC Editorial #36: Experience; 3: edited excerpt from BAE Systems' website, 'About Us' section

Aktionshaus is pleased to present The Joys, a new solo exhibition by Clemente Ciarrocca. The Joys comprises a new series of photo transfers, theoretical diagrams, prints, chemical and multimedia assemblages examining the porosity between institutional discourse and intimacy. Drawing on excerpts from St. Augustine’s Confessions, sensuous materialist theory and the language and tools of the military-corporate complex, Ciarrocca sheds light on how personal and official vocabularies collapse into singular, logical expressions of control-desire dynamics.
This week: Wednesday-Thursday, 15:00-21:00
