In just over a month, we welcome Los Angeles-based harpist and composer Mary Lattimore back to Newquay for an evening of glittering live music at St Michael’s Church. She’ll be joined by Neil Halstead on guitar to perform material from the critically acclaimed album Silver Ladders, as well as performing a varied selection from her impeccable canon of work. The evening will also include support from Voguebeloth. Born from the echoing walls of a Cornish chapel, Voguebeloth weave distortion and ambience into improvised soundscapes. Featuring members of Mildred Maude, Seamouse, and Pink Midnight. This is the only opportunity to see Mary perform in the UK on this trip, the focus of which is to record a second album with Halstead at his North Cornwall studio. Not to be missed! Ingrid did a lot of lovely photos for the accompanying booklet and I like this one as our old dog Elsie is taking me for a walk during a studio break . I think Elsie enjoyed the creative process but she was very good at reminding us to take a break now and then …this was actually the last record she had a paw in the making of .. 🐾

NEIL HALSTEAD x HUER’S HUT It’s been just over 2 months since the inaugural ALMA Winter Arts Weekend and we are making our way through all the documentation, feedback and highlights from a truly brilliant festival. Over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing images and film from the events, pop-ups and installations that took place across the town - starting with Neil Halstead’s sound installation at the Huer’s Hut. Halstead’s ambient compositions beckoned people to Newquay’s iconic look out point and created an opportunity to pause, listen and enjoy the space and the scenery. WINTER ARTS WEEKEND: Neil Halstead Sound Installation at The Huer’s Hut | FREE | 29 Nov - 1 Dec, 11am - 3pm  For the ALMA Winter Arts Weekend, musician, producer and songwriter Neil Halstead has created a thoughtful, looping soundscape that will emanate from the Huer’s Hut - a symbol of Newquay’s historic past.  Perched high above the sea, the striking white structure is a grade II listed building, dating back to the 14th Century. Echoing its original use as a shelter for the Huer, (who would sound a cry of ‘hevva hevva!’ to alert the town to the arrival of pilchard shoals on the horizon), Halstead’s soundscape will act as a beacon - encouraging passers by to follow the sounds - pause, listen and reflect.  Neil Halstead is a founding member of the iconic shoegaze band Slowdive. Renowned for his atmospheric guitar work and introspective songwriting, he played a pivotal role in shaping the genre’s ethereal sound in the 1990s. After Slowdive disbanded in 1995, Halstead shifted towards a more acoustic, folk-influenced sound with Mojave 3 and his solo-career. Slowdive reunited in 2014, and the band embarked on a highly successful reunion tour, reintroducing their dreamy shoegaze sound to a new generation of fans. Their latest album «Everything Is Alive» from 2023 was met with critical acclaim, expanding on their signature sound while incorporating more  electronic elements, reinforcing their status as one of the genre’s most influential bands. Halstead also produced LA-harpist Mary Lattimore’s widely praised album «Silver Ladders» and co-composed the score for the award-winning film The Unknown Country with Lily Gladstone. 📸 1+3 by @ingridpop_ 2.
