How to Successfully Hire an Architect & Contractor in Boston? WE DID! “My name is Joan Merheb Levy. I live in Charlestown, Massachusetts, and I’m a Sales Director for a company called Insight Global… My past experience has definitely been a fun one. We’ve been trying to redo our apartment for over five years now. We didn’t start working with NEDC until about a year ago, so you can imagine it’s been four years of us working with other types of design and architecture companies. My experience has always been the same in those situations—second we pay the down payment, they disappear, and we don’t hear from them. We have to follow up a lot. Being a salesperson, I know how to follow up and get what I want, and I’m super persistent and aggressive, so I had to take that tactic to even get a single response. Over those four years, we ended up with all these separate projects and pieces that we couldn’t really do anything with. It took so long from each one that, to me, we just wasted a lot of money. It is night and day different with NEDC. It’s a completely different experience and one that I had hoped was the case. I would complain to a lot of my peers just to see if anyone had any other solutions—maybe it was a me thing—but they all had the same experiences as well. I was very motivated to find a company that was not like that, and that is NEDC. It’s been the complete opposite of what I’ve experienced. They overcommunicate with me. I know exactly where they stand. They tell me what they need from me with very minimal effort and very minimal time. They actually listen to what I ask for and what I say, and you can see that as our relationship has progressed throughout the process. I found them on Google. I was being super persistent and motivated to find someone I could actually partner with and trust. NEDC was the only company that had a five-star rating with hundreds of ratings. I thought, “Who has five-star ratings? That does not exist.” Usually, I’m good with a 4.6. I read through all of them, and everything that everyone was saying was exactly what I was looking for—it was all my pain points solved.…” #Boston #Architect #Builder #homeremodel #designbuild

At NEDC our Project Managers are experienced, professional and extremely caring—they tend to be loved by our clients. NEDC Project Manager Joe Souza is prime example. These meaningful words show this—an unsolicited email from these truly wonderful clients (and now life-long friends) after their whole condo gut remodel overlooking the South End. “I also wanted to stress a message to potential clients. That entering into the design-build process with NEDC is an opportunity to enter into a relationship that will leave lasting wonderful memories for years to come. What is better than looking at a room, a molding, or even a switch and remember the discussions and excitement of a vision for a space, set of spaces, or entire home, come to life, for living with joy!   Having been through this process many times I know as a client what it feels like to have a room evoke good (vs. bad) memories after a construction project!” NEDC Client D.A. - Boston #Boston #Home #Designbuild #Architect #ProjectManager

Our clients grew up in New England houses and wanted this Victorian to become a forever home without losing its identity. They weren’t looking for a new house inside an old shell. They wanted a better version of what was already there. In partnership with New England Design + Construction, who rebalanced the interior architecture, we brought the Victorian details back into focus, layering in furnishings chosen for both longevity and daily family life. Happy Earth Day 🌎 Custom cat climbing wall & library meets passive house. A beautiful NEDC Passive House custom retrofit in Somerville, Mass.  This project involved the conversion of a standard two-family home into a custom single family Passive House—designed exactly to client taste and planned to generate a carbon footprint of nearly zero.  This is verified as the first and one & only single family retrofitted Passive House in Massachusetts. There have been other retrofitted Passive Houses, but no single families.  This is the first of its kind.  The clients are both local creative artists who simultaneously took an uninspiring Victorian style home with vinyl siding and (with our help) transformed it into a joyful expression of themselves... all while keeping with the playful character of the original home and neighborhood.  The home itself is now a work of art: vibrant, elegant, and a unique love letter to sustainability and the beauty of our Earth.   This family is setting an example for others in Massachusetts and beyond to pursue the epitome of energy efficiency (and the benefits of health, comfort & social responsibility that brings), it being the first of its kind and this was an intention of theirs.  NEDC was challenged to achieve a precise joyous and creative aesthetic the clients desired within the exacting sustainable framework and requirements of a Certified Passive House—essentially the gold standard of an eco home in today’s built environment.  Photography: @meganboothphoto Architectural / Design / Builder: @nedesignconstruction Landscape Design / Build: @abladeofgrass_inc Feature: @bostonglobemag #Boston #Architect #PassiveHouse #Earthday #DesignBuild

Four Season Outdoor Living In MetroWest A beautiful Wellesley collaboration with @abladeofgrass_inc recently published in @nehomemagazine Landscape Design Build: @abladeofgrass_inc Architect / Builder: @nedesignconstruction Photography: @michaeljleephotography Publication: @nehomemagazine With young children and full professional lives, the family wasn’t looking for a far-off retreat—they were looking for a place to slow down and reconnect at home. A space where they could cook meals outdoors, watch their kids play, gather with friends, or simply enjoy quiet moments together after a long day. What they really wanted was a sanctuary: a welcoming, well-designed extension of their home that would make everyday life feel a little more relaxed and a little more beautiful, in every season.    The house, built in 2002, sits on a steeply sloped lot that had long made the backyard difficult to access and underused. Our challenge was to reimagine the space as a cohesive, four-season outdoor living area that felt both natural and elevated.    At the center of the design is a custom, heated in-ground pool—an uncommon feature in our New England climate—equipped with both an auto cover and insulated manual cover to maximize energy efficiency. Porcelain paver decking, integrated with snow-melt cables, allows the space to remain usable and safe through winter.     To create a seamless client experience, we partnered with our trusted colleagues at NEDC (New England Design & Construction) to design and install a custom home addition embracing a screened-in porch with retractable screens and radiant heat beneath matching pavers—allowing it to function as both an enclosed retreat and an open-air gathering space.    NEDC honored the modern Greek revival style by extending the existing colonnade on the left side of the house and then wrapping it around the porch addition in the back, as if it had always been there.  #Boston #wellesley #Architect #Landscape #Designbuild

Emerson mapping out a home with our 3D laser scanner from @trimble_official as part of NEDCs pre-design meeting with wonderful new clients. NEDC Design Director Steve Daly, Lead Designer Drew Tessier and key members of the NEDC Design Team meet with wonderful new clients in a pre-design meeting as part of our Architectural Design Build process. @mich This allows the design team to meet the clients, walk the home for the first time, hear their vision, needs and wants from the client directly before embarking on the design process. We also scan the applicable part of the home so as to gather accurate information and as-builts at this stage. #Boston #Architect #Home #Design #Build
