“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” - Lao Tzu This film started as a story about sport and natural winemaking, but it gradually shifted to a story about pace, the pace we force on ourselves, and the one our bodies keep telling us to return to. While making it, I noticed the themes of the piece sneaking into the way I worked. I kept wanting to “solve” the film immediately, to have all the answers figured out, the same way a sprinter wants to force speed. But the process kept asking me to slow down, to listen, and to trust that those answers will come along the way. In a strange way, the film taught me the thing it’s trying to say: that patience isn’t losing or being lost, it’s an act of rebellion, it’s an act of devout trust. A quieter kind of strength. I hope you feel some of that when you watch it and thank you to everyone who helped bring this film to life. Latest work for @springfieldmw AW22 campaign featuring the marvelous @begovargas . If you were to tell me a year ago that I'd be directing a commercial for Springfield with the incredible team at Bana Studio @bana.studioo at my side during the entire process, I would've said you were crazy and promptly left to go pet the dog I'd been maintaining eye contact with as you were talking. But honestly, There are no words to describe what it was like to have a studio like Bana and the brand Springfield trust my vision and support me throughout this entire project. When you're self-taught like I am, it's easy to see all the things that make you "inadequate" to do something great. But after this experience, I feel so much more confident in what I'm capable of doing. A director I really admire called @fenn_omeally once wrote: "Being self-taught can feel like you’re a fraud when actually you’re a freak of nature. You have no rule book, only feeling. A feeling that can’t be taught or trained - usually gut feeling." This video was truly a test of that theory for me. And to have a team with you through it all made this moment that much more special.
