I started No Diving after being told to stay in my lane. Safe to say I didn’t. (Duh) I’d been told no more times than I could count. No to my ideas. No to the vision. No to doing it differently. But here’s the thing about a No Diving sign: You see it, and all you wana do is dive right in. So I did. After a redundancy and a business chapter that left me questioning everything, I had a choice, play it safe, or back myself harder than ever. I built No Diving. A place for bold ideas, real collaboration, and creative work that actually means something. I’m Yas, creative director, brand builder, ocean lover, and the founder of N.DVG. The name is a nod to my dad. He was a passionate diver. Last year, my aunty passed on his childhood diving goggles, a family heirloom of sorts, that I’ll treasure forever. They now sit quietly on my desk, reminding me to stay true to the vision. (Punn intended) Even when it’s wild. Especially when it’s wild. I care about the details. I care about the process. And I care about working with people who are ready to back themselves and go all in. This studio isn’t a job for me, it’s the creative playground I wish existed when I started. We don’t need to tell buyers where to get their morning coffee or where to send their kids to school, that’s a dose of adventure still waiting to be explored. (And honestly, as self-confessed Melbourne coffee snobs, we are not here to impose our latte preferences on anyone either.) What we do need to communicate is how it will feel to live here. We were given the rare green light to go rogue (love this for us!) to capture the Gold Coast through the lens of Chaos to Calm. Just pre-dawn call times. Late-night beach shadows. Shooting between swells and before the cyclone rolled in (timing couldn’t of been more on our side tbh 🙏🏻) We were chasing light. Chasing mood. Chasing what it feels like to be here, not just what it looks like. These images don’t just capture place, they capture pace. The tension, the contrast, the beauty in both.
