Been blessed with several accolades from all around the world for many years, and I do not take it lightly that the work speaks to people in the way(s) it does.
But I must say that this one hits differently. Yesterday my mom and sibling attended “The Legends Awards” in Pietermariztburg where they received an award on my behalf. I am very far from seeing myself as a legend but I’m deeply moved by this gesture. There is something about being seen/heard by your own people. Something happens when a village listens to its own stories, it is a type of ‘feedback’, an intensity I cannot even explain.
Pietermariztburg thank you for this wonderful honour, I’m grateful ❤️🕯️
PS this stunning hall, where the event took place, is one of the first few halls I performed in during my primary and high school years… full circle moment
