Coming soon: Instances of Exceptional Moments of Hunger: Stories from the CANEX Creative Writing Workshop 2024, edited by Eghosa Imasuen In August 2024, African writers from the continent and the diaspora gathered in Aburi, Ghana, for the inaugural CANEX Creative Writing Workshop, a programme under Afreximbank's CANEX Book Factory initiative. The purpose was to give emerging African prose writers a protected space for craft, discipline and growth. This anthology is the result of that workshop, and we are excited to announce that the print edition will be released across Africa this June! The anthology was released internationally on Amazon in January 2026. Get 15% off when you pre-order the print edition on our website (link in bio). "This anthology contains nineteen stories, speaking across recurring human pressures: longing, hunger, faith, violence, tenderness, shame, desire, survival, memory. Hunger takes many forms here, and these writers show the restraint and courage to leave a wound open on the page and trust the reader to feel it." - Eghosa Imasuen, anthology editor Contributors: Audrey Obuobisa-Darko | Basma Jaheen | Benjamin Cyril Arthur | Denise Westfield | Eduardo Quive | Evelyn Gachuchu | H. What makes a story unforgettable? A scene that lingers long after the final page. Last Wednesday at @provisionskenya , writers gathered for our very first *Scenes: The Heart of Stories* workshop facilitated by @eimasuen and what unfolded was nothing short of electric. From breaking down powerful scenes to workshopping original pieces, the room was filled with insight, curiosity, laughter, and the kind of storytelling magic that reminds us why stories matter. For many budding writers, it was a rare opportunity to have their work read, challenged, and sharpened by an acclaimed author, editor, and publisher whose words continue to shape contemporary African literature. The first chapter of this workshop series closes here, but the conversations and the stories are only just beginning. #nlpea #narrativelandscapepress #ourstoriesourway Catch the next one through our newsletter. ✨

📚BOOK REVIEW | This Motherless Land by @nikkimaywriter This is easily one of the best books I’ve read this year, and without a doubt, one of my top reads overall. You know that feeling when you finish a book, but you’re not quite ready to leave its world behind? That’s exactly how I felt after this one. I wanted more time with the characters, more moments in their lives, and more pages to hold onto. Set across the 70s, 80s, and 90s between Lagos and London, the story follows Funke, who grows up in Lagos with her British mother, Nigerian father, and brother. After tragedy changes everything, she’s sent to England to live with her mother’s family, where she’s met with coldness and hostility, except from her cousin, Liv. What stood out most to me was how beautifully the author explored family in all its forms, the loving, complicated, toxic, and painful parts of it. I honestly didn’t expect my feelings toward Liv to change so drastically. One minute, I loved her, the next, I completely despised her. But Margot? I don’t think I’ll ever forgive her 😭. Even Funke’s father frustrated me deeply. While I eventually understood some of his choices, I still feel Funke was far more forgiving than I could ever be. This book hurt me in the best and worst ways possible. Every chapter carried so much emotion and pain that it was impossible not to feel deeply affected by it. There were moments I found myself ranting to my invisible audience because I was just that emotionally invested 😂. This is the kind of story that stays with you long after you’ve finished reading. Truly unforgettable. #ThisMotherlessLand #BookReview #InterracialBookRec #bookstagramfyp
