What makes a story unforgettable?
A scene that lingers long after the final page.
Last Wednesday at @provisionskenya , writers gathered for our very first *Scenes: The Heart of Stories* workshop facilitated by @eimasuen and what unfolded was nothing short of electric. From breaking down powerful scenes to workshopping original pieces, the room was filled with insight, curiosity, laughter, and the kind of storytelling magic that reminds us why stories matter.
For many budding writers, it was a rare opportunity to have their work read, challenged, and sharpened by an acclaimed author, editor, and publisher whose words continue to shape contemporary African literature.
The first chapter of this workshop series closes here, but the conversations and the stories are only just beginning.

Coming soon: Instances of Exceptional Moments of Hunger: Stories from the CANEX Creative Writing Workshop 2024, edited by Eghosa Imasuen
In August 2024, African writers from the continent and the diaspora gathered in Aburi, Ghana, for the inaugural CANEX Creative Writing Workshop, a programme under Afreximbank's CANEX Book Factory initiative. The purpose was to give emerging African prose writers a protected space for craft, discipline and growth.
This anthology is the result of that workshop, and we are excited to announce that the print edition will be released across Africa this June!
The anthology was released internationally on Amazon in January 2026. Get 15% off when you pre-order the print edition on our website (link in bio).
"This anthology contains nineteen stories, speaking across recurring human pressures: longing, hunger, faith, violence, tenderness, shame, desire, survival, memory. Hunger takes many forms here, and these writers show the restraint and courage to leave a wound open on the page and trust the reader to feel it." - Eghosa Imasuen, anthology editor

What does it mean to be at the forefront of publishing in Africa?
In a workshop led by Ainehi Edoro, founder of Brittle Paper, at the Sharjah Publishers Conference in November, Dr Eghosa Imasuen, co-founder of Narrative Landscape Press, spoke to audiences about the trends in African publishing and the challenges of taking African stories abroad.
“When we listen to audiobooks produced in the West, they have a Wakandan accent,” said Dr Imasuen, referencing the fictional nation from Marvel's Black Panther at a workshop on African publishing at the Sharjah Publishers Conference in November. “Nobody talks like that on the continent.”
Alongside Edoro, Dr Imasuen discussed the impact of COVID-19 on the editor-writer relationship, pointing out that so much work is now done online, which limits in-person mentorship opportunities.
There is still hope, though. “Now it's chic to read Nigerian books and proclaim, ‘I don't read American books,’” shared Dr Imasuen. “Write truthfully and the world will bend over backward to understand what you're saying.”

Last week was one for the books, literary and literally.
One of the highlights was an unforgettable evening at Soma Nami Books @somanami_ke , where we had the honour of hosting Dr. Eghosa Imasuen @eimasuen publisher, co-founder of Narrative Landscape Press @narrativelscape , and author of Fine Boys (published by @farafinabooks )
The gathering came just days after the June 25th commemorative protests, and though the air in Nairobi still hung heavy with tear gas, it felt like the right moment, for reflection, for mourning, for meaning-making.
Fine Boys, though set in 1980s and 90s Nigeria, felt eerily close to home. It tells the story of a group of university freshmen navigating a collapsing system marked by frequent strikes, economic hardship, and a military regime hostile to dissent.
What does it mean to come of age in a country falling apart? At times during the conversation, we weren’t sure whether we were discussing 90s Nigeria or present-day Kenya.
I can’t recommend Fine Boys enough. It should weigh on you but it’s also laced with humour, in that distinct way we Kenyans often use laughter to swallow our bitter pills.
