Dom bygger en visuellt tillfredsställande, dockskåpsliknande miljö, där dom iscensätter två vuxna kvinnor – båda vid namn Eva. De interagerar med varandra och med den givna scenografin för att undersöka frågor kring makt och kön. För Närheten Festival gör Mag och Palén performancet Kakflickorna där dom fördjupar sig i glädjen av att ge.
Éva Mag, född 1979, och Jenny Palén, född 1982, är båda baserade i Stockholm och tog sin MFA från Kungl. Konsthögskolan 2015. De arbetar båda med performance, skulptur och installation.

Eva är ormen i paradiset (Eva is the Serpent in Paradise), begun in 2016, is a series of works consisting of sculpture, scenography, and performance, written and performed by Éva Mag and Jenny Palén. They create a visually satisfying, dollhouse-like environment in which they stage two adult women – both named Eva. The characters interact with each other and with the given scenography to explore questions of power and gender. For the Närheten Festival, Mag and Palén present the performance Kakflickorna (The Cake Girls), where they delve into the joy of giving. Éva Mag, born in 1979, and Jenny Palén, born in 1982, are both based in Stockholm and received their MFAs from the Royal Institute of Art in 2015. Välkomna till NÄRHETEN på Konsthall C lördagen den 30 augusti kl. 16-19! I en tid som präglas av oro, splittring och avstånd känns det viktigare än någonsin att samlas — lokalt, kollektivt och med omsorg. NÄRHETEN är ett initiativ som längtar efter det nära och det gemensamma: lokala perspektiv, det folkliga, det smala, det intima och det snälla. NÄRHETEN curateras & produceras av Amanda Apetrea, Sara Bergsmark, Nadja Hjorton och Terry Johnson. Teknisk samordnare är Björn Kuajara och den grafiska formen är skapad av Moa Schulman. Festivalen genomförs med stöd av Stockholm stad, Nacka kommun och Region Stockholm. SALONGER I tider då konsten ifrågasätts och marginaliseras, blir det avgörande att återerövra den som en plats för motstånd, eftertanke och gemenskap. Salongerna inom NÄRHETEN tar avstamp i en lång tradition där konstnärer, intellektuella och tänkare har samlats — inte i institutionella rum, utan i hem, ateljéer och kök. Platser där idéer fått ta form fritt, där samtal kunnat fördjupas och där gränserna mellan liv och konst suddats ut. NÄRHETENs salonger är inte bara en blick bakåt till historiens radikala samlingsrum — de är ett försök att göra plats för något vi akut behöver idag: konsten som en plats där vi kan tänka tillsammans, vara tillsammans, och kanske börja föreställa oss andra sätt att leva In times when art is being questioned and marginalized, it becomes crucial to reclaim it as a space for resistance, reflection, and community. The salons within NÄRHETEN draw from a long tradition where artists, intellectuals, and thinkers have gathered — not in institutional spaces, but in homes, studios, and kitchens. Places where ideas have taken form freely, where conversations could deepen, and where the boundaries between life and art have been blurred. In a time when public discourse is increasingly shut down or polarized, the salon offers a different kind of meeting — intimate, alive, listening. A space for both vulnerability and strength. NÄRHETEN’s salons are not only a glance back at the radical gathering spaces of history — they are an attempt to make room for something we urgently need today: art as a space where we can think together, be together, and perhaps begin to imagine other ways of living. Link to more info and tickets in bio It all started when I heard a field recording from 1987: the last Moho bird, now extinct, singing for a mate that will never come.
That call felt so familiar. It opened a memory — a poem I learned as a child: The Conference of the Birds, a 12th-century Sufi text in which all the birds of the world
set out in search of wisdom in a collapsing world.
That poem has just not let me go for the past three years. What began as a childhood story has become a critical guide — a way of sitting with the question: How do we respond to a collapsing world? Language of the Birds is not a performance.
It is a gathering, a process, a way of listening. It lives in movement, sound, and flicker — in that subtle space where myth and memory meet crisis. Real and current stories from Gaza, New Delhi, Tehran, and the Nicobar Islands —
stories of people relearning the language of birds — intersect with personal experiences of loss, survival, and transformation. In a time when the word love feels utterly out of place, this work is a desperate attempt to insist on it, to commit to whatever is still left of it.
And maybe — probably — we will fail.
But that will not stop us from attempting.
We will not compromise.
Because what else can we do,
but our part?

Närheten 30 augusti 2025 1944 gav Kooperativa förbundet ut boken Inför framtidens demokrati. Mycket av det som skulle komma att bli Sveriges bostadspolitik under efterkrigstiden formuleras här, i inledningen ställs ett antal frågor. ”Frågeställningen utkristalliserade sig så småningom: demokratins problem är i första hand problemet att skapa demokratiska människor. Utan dem har det demokratiska samhället inga bärare. Äro de nuvarande demokratiernas medlemmar demokratiska människor? Om inte hur göra dem till det?” Svaret kom ett knappt decennium senare när Gubbängen och Hökarängens centrum invigs. Dessa två förorter blev startskottet på den så kallade tunnelbanestaden. Jag kommer som en del av Närheten att samtala om Hökarängens historia och vad som hände sedan. Blev vi demokratiska människor? Om inte, vad var det som gick fel? Länk till biljetter och mer info i bio Noticing Elsewhere är en guidad vandrings- och lyssnarpraktik i grupp. Tillsammans går vi i tystnad medan vi lyssnar på ett ljudlandskap. Vi uppmärksammar allt omkring oss och dem vi går med, och upptäcker små ögonblick vi annars kanske hade missat. Vi zoomar in och ser de allra minsta detaljerna. Vi zoomar ut och låter landskapet bära oss. Vandringen är en känslig och meditativ förbindelse med vår omgivning, och ett förslag till nya sätt att vara tillsammans med andra. Ljudlandskapet, skapat med fältinspelningar från den väg vi kommer att gå, vägleder våra blickar — både nära och långt bort. Det erbjuds som en varsam puff att lägga märke till vad som rör sig, och vad som står stilla, vad som är verkligt, och vad som är inbillat, att uppmärksamma var vi är — och var vi också skulle kunna vara. Link in bio for more info and tickets Noticing Elsewhere is a guided group walking and listening practice. As a group we walk in silence while listening to a soundscape. We notice all that is around us and who we are walking with, discovering little moments we might have otherwise missed. We zoom in and notice the smallest details. We zoom out and let the landscape hold us. The walk is a sensitive and meditative engagement with our surroundings, and a suggestion for new ways of being with others.  Made with field recordings from the route we will walk, the soundscape guides our eyes close and far. It is offered as a gentle nudge to notice what is moving, and what is not, what is real, and what is imagined, to notice the where, and notice the elsewhere. Concept and sound: Jonathan Starr

Tor Lindstrand (Stockholm) är universitetslektor på Konstfack. Han jobbar också på LLP arkitektkontor, med fokus på att gestalta offentliga miljöer inom förskola, skola och kultur ofta genom att utveckla och leda processer i komplexa sammanhang. Han har i över tjugo år arbetat med platsspecifika gestaltningar för torg, konsthallar, teatrar, skolor och bibliotek. Han är boende i Hökarängen och lokalt engagerad i Hökarängens stadsdelsråd. Tor Lindstrand (Stockholm) is a Senior Lecturer at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design. He also works at the architecture firm LLP, focusing on designing public environments within preschool, school, and cultural contexts—often by developing and leading processes in complex settings. For over twenty years, he has worked with site-specific designs for squares, art galleries, theaters, schools, and libraries. He lives in Hökarängen and is actively involved in the Hökarängen District Council.
