Happy Incorporation Day!
On this day in 1913, the incomparable Nellie May Quander secured the legal incorporation and perpetuity of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. Her foresight ensured that 118 years after our founding, we remain firm and standing.
To our sisters across the globe, we hope you and your families are safe following last weekend’s storm and prepared for the weather ahead.
Today, we’re thrilled to share a special documentary featuring the incomparable Phylicia Rashad in conversation with your regional directors, her linesister Sheila Harley, and moderated by Molette Green of NBC4 Washington.
This rich conversation highlights the role AKA has played in each of our lives and how the ivy vine continues through generations. 🌿
Join us in celebrating Incorporation Day!
With Sisterly Love,
Elicia Pegues Spearman, Notable North Atlantic Regional Director
Nadine Vargas Stewart, Marvelous Mid-Atlantic Regional Director
In Alpha Kappa Alpha we are blessed with an abundance of excellence. Our North Atlantic Regional Director Elicia Pegues Spearman shines bright as a daily inspiration to us.
From her distinguished career as a lawyer and executive leader at the FBI, Children’s Hospital, and Aetna, to her current role as CEO of Girl Scouts of Connecticut, she exemplifies the power of representation and legacy.
As a legacy holding three generations of Alpha Kappa Alpha close, she understands deeply that you can’t be what you can’t see. Her journey from boardrooms to leading young women shows our girls that they too can design their own path.
When our daughters witness Alpha Kappa Alpha women like MRD breaking barriers while staying rooted in sisterhood, they see their own unlimited potential reflected back at them. This is the beautiful cycle of empowerment that continues to elevate our homes and communities - one young woman at a time.

“Black women rise in spite of adversarial atmospheres. You remind me of eagles - using headwinds to soar higher.” - Dr. Frederick Haynes
From our 1908 founders creating their own path to us today, we don’t retreat when challenged - we SQUABBLE UP! We stand in our purpose against any obstacle.
Thank you @fhunscripted for reminding us.
Let’s rise and soar today, sisters! 💕💚

Our next stop: The Magic City! 🩷💚
In a city built on resilience, we gathered in unity & power. 🌸
The South Eastern Regional Conference in Birmingham was a reminder that magic happens when Alpha Kappa Alpha women walk fully in who they are. We soared. We connected. We experienced something that words can barely hold. South Eastern sisters, you are the magic. 💚🩷

Today is International Day of Families, and honestly I could talk about this all day. 🤍
My mom is my heartbeat. She’s the woman who taught me what strength looks like, what love sounds like, and what grace feels like even in the hardest moments. I call her just to hear her voice. I still need her advice. I still want her in the front row of everything. There is no version of me that exists without her, and I never want there to be.
My husband. My partner, my safe place, my protector You make this life so much sweeter. Our constant laughter and comedy routines crack me up. And you celebrate me even on the days I forget to celebrate myself. I am so grateful to do life with you.
And my daughter… baby girl, you are everything I was praying for. You’ve shown me a kind of love I had no language for before you arrived. Watching you grow into yourself is the greatest privilege of my life. I hope you always know how deeply you are loved.
My brother. We don’t need a lot of words because we just know. The kind of bond that doesn’t require explanation. Folks know not to mess with your sister.
And then there’s the whole beautiful, loving, hilarious village — my BFFs, aunts, uncles, cousins, godparents, godsister, godbrothers, friends and extended family who shaped me, poured into me, prayed over me, and showed up in ways big and small throughout my whole life. Family gatherings that fill your soul. Text threads that keep you connected. Inside jokes that never get old. That is the fabric of who I am.
Family — the family you’re born into, the family you build, and the family that just chooses you — is the greatest gift this life offers. It is the anchor in the storm and the joy in the ordinary moments.
Today and every day, I am grateful. 💛
Happy International Day of Families to everyone who has a tribe that loves them well. Hold them close. Tell them you love them. Don’t wait. 🌸

And just like that… another program year in the North Atlantic Region is coming to a close. 🩷💚
Chapters are still deep in the work — programming strong through June before taking a well-deserved summer rest and reset. Because Alpha Kappa Alpha women, do the work.
And in the NOTABLE North Atlantic Region, what a year it has been.
💡 We innovated through the AI AKAdemy Series — equipping our members with the tools and tech knowledge to lead in the digital age.
☕ We poured into our next generation through Spill the Tea with GenNext — building bridges between sisters across chapters, age gaps, and life stages, because the ivy vine only grows stronger when we nurture it together.
🏆 Our chapters tallied service hours, launched community initiatives, honored legacies, and welcomed new members onto the Ivy Vine with open arms and hearts full of purpose.
What you’ve seen is only a fraction of what this mighty region has done.
From hyper-local community responses meeting sisters and their communities exactly where they live, to regional leadership development happening across all five program pillars through our Ivy Connections committee — we have been poured into, and we have poured from full cups.
None of this happens without the people who get the work done every single day.
We celebrate our International Representative to the International Program Committee, Gina Scott, whose leadership connects our region to the global vision of our sisterhood.
We honor every chapter Vice President, every program committee chairman, and every member of every program committee who shows up, plans, executes, and pours — over and over again.
Strong programs and service is our ministry. A testament to what 16,000 women bound by sisterhood, service, and scholarship can do when they move in alignment.
To every chapter president, graduate advisor, committee chair, sister, and servant leader in the North Atlantic Region — thank you. You are the reason this region breathes.
The ivy never fade, it grows stronger and spreads its strength.

The word of the week is: FRESH!
My mom always keep me on my toes with all of her elaborate descriptions of EVERYTHING 😂.
One thing my mother has always taught me is BE WHO YOU ARE. Even in funny moments like this, It reminds me not to allow anything to change who I am called to be. I hope you can apply this message to your own lives as well 🩷
It’s always a blessing to spend moments like this with my loved ones!

She came with HOPE — and she meant every letter of it: Help Other People Excel.
That was the platform. That was the promise. And Evelyn Sample Oates, 31st North Atlantic Regional Director delivered on every word.
Under her leadership, she witnessed a region that had grown into something beautifully diverse and unstoppable. “We’re innovative. We’re creative. We’re advocates.” And as Black women in this organization, she’ll tell you — we are always ready to step up and get the work done.
To her legacy and the young sisters finding their way, she calls on you to: “Get involved. Get engaged. Elevate your leadership qualities — because one day, you can lead this great region. We need our young people.” The work of serving all mankind depends on it.
At 118 years old, this organization is still going strong — because women like her refuse to slow down.

Attend to Learn, Leave to Impact✨
Lifelong learning is a commitment to intentional growth, continuous development, and striving for excellence in every season of life. As women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, we understand that education extends far beyond the classroom. It is reflected in how we lead, serve, mentor, and continue to evolve personally and professionally.
Through leadership opportunities, community service, professional advancement, and meaningful sisterhood, we continue to cultivate knowledge and wisdom that empowers not only ourselves, but also the communities we impact every day. The knowledge, strategies, and experiences we gain are then poured back into our chapters, allowing us to create meaningful programs, strengthen our service initiatives, and make an even greater impact within our communities.
Growth requires intention, discipline, and the willingness to remain teachable no matter where we are in life’s journey. May we always remain committed to growing with purpose, leading with confidence, and creating opportunities for generations of women to come after us. 💕💚

Mother’s Day allowed relaxation and reflection time.
There is something sacred about being called to lead and called to mother at the same time.
The love we pour into our children, the examples we try to set, the late nights balancing service and motherhood- it’s all worth it.
To every sister who is leading and mothering simultaneously — keep going. You are planting seeds you may not see bloom for years. But they are growing.🩷💚

She started the Legacy Parade. She reminded us to live by the golden rule.
Joy Elaine Daley — 30th Regional Director of the Notable North Atlantic — led with heart, and built systems that lasted. From the first regional treasury fund to inaugurating the Legacy Parade (first held in Philadelphia) Joy’s fingerprints are on some of the most beloved traditions in our region and beyond.
Her advice to our sisterhood? “..It’s a lifelong experience — and it’s up to you to make it so.”
Our Living Legend has remained anchored in something timeless: know your documents. “Know what is required of you as a member. Know our documents and live by them.” That is how we honor what our founders built — and she believes with her whole heart that they would be proud of what we’re doing today.
The parade started here. The legacy lives everywhere.
