🐟 Spotlight on Solutions: Connecting Watershed Wins in Napa
A great example of what collaborative watershed stewardship can achieve: Napa County Resource Conservation District, California Trout, and partners have restored fish passage on Sulphur Creek near St. Helena — one of the Napa River watershed’s most impactful recent restoration projects. 🌿
By replacing the aging Thorsen Bridge and removing barriers to migration, the project reopened 3.2 miles of habitat for threatened steelhead, Chinook salmon, and Pacific lamprey while improving creek function and climate resilience.
Projects like this reflect the kind of collaborative, watershed-scale thinking that aligns with NBWA’s mission—bringing agencies, organizations, and communities together to support healthier, more resilient watersheds across the North Bay.
Kudos to NapaRCD and partners for advancing work that not only restores a creek, but strengthens the entire Napa River watershed. 👏🐠 Learn more about the project here: https://loom.ly/Umztd5o

What’s the difference between a Forest Management Plan and an implementation project?
Forest Management Plans are developed by Registered Professional Foresters and tailored to your land. The Forester will assess many aspects of your forest, including tree health, vegetation composition, soil conditions, infrastructure (roads and access), cultural resources, water resources, wildlife habitat, and wildfire risk. The plan will lay out clear, actionable steps to improve forest resilience over time.
Implementation projects are on-the-ground forest improvement activities that reduce wildfire risk and support long-term forest health. Activities include: fuels reduction & thinning, pruning and tree care, shaded fuel breaks, removal of dead or diseased trees, and reforestation and planting.
The North Bay Forest Improvement Program (NBFIP) is a collaborative, regional program that supports forest health and resilience across Lake, Mendocino, Napa and Sonoma counties. The program provides financial incentives to landowners to conduct this critical work 🌲🌳🌲
Applications for Forest Management Plans are accepted year-round. Applications for implementation projects open July 8th! Visit NorthBayForestImprovementProgram.com or click the link in our bio to learn more 🔗
This program is a partnership between Conservation Works, the Resource Conservation Districts (RCDs) of Sonoma, Gold Ridge, Mendocino and Napa counties and Clear Lake Environmental Research Center (CLERC) of Lake County. Together, we are providing assistance to landowners across the four-county region.

So many thanks to all of you that joined us on this chilly and overcast morning for the Earth Day Napa Community Cleanup!! We met new friends of the human AND canine variety, picked up over 2,000 cigarette butts, saw lots of you that have been joining us for many years, and were inspired by the number of youth that came out to help us Keep Napa Clean! We also had a lot of groups that joined us, including but certainly not limited to: @lagence_napavalley , Girl Scout Troop 10816, Target, @domainecarneros , @pejuwinery , Rotary Clubs, @tailsofthevalleyclub , @fccnapa , and so many more I know I missed! **If you were there and we missed giving you a shout out, let us know and share your photos!**
Special shout out to your Site Captains- they make this whole show possible, and haul very gross, dirty buckets in their personal vehicles all around town!
Thanks again for a lovely day of picking up trash, keeping our minds sharp by learning and remembering what goes in what bin, and spending time with our community!
Who’s joining us for tomorrow’s Earth Day Napa Community Cleanup? 🌎 This is our 18th year, and we’re excited to keep the tradition going with you!
If you’re still deciding where to go, consider the South Jefferson Wetlands. This site has been on our list since the beginning- not because it’s trashy, but because its location along the tidal Napa River naturally collects debris coming in from the Bay and washing down with the rains. There’s always meaningful work to be done.
The walk from the meeting place out to the river follows a dry, mowed path (thanks, Flood Control District!) and offers incredible views- birds, native plants, and wetlands in action. If the timing lines up, you might even spot volunteers across the river at Kennedy Park. 👋
We have 6 cleanup sites total, but South Jefferson is a great choice if you want a scenic, impactful experience.
Registration is now closed, but walk-ups are absolutely welcome- we’d love to have you join us!
Visit NapaRCD.org/EarthDay for the full list of sites.
The Climate-Friendly Garden Tour is less than a month away!! We've got lots in store... including FOUR workshops covering the @cityofnapa Cash for Grass Program, Firewise Landscaping with @napafirewise , Avoiding Invasives at the Nursery, and Soil Health with our partners at @ucmastergardenersnapaco . There's so much to share and we can't wait to see you there!
Tickets are on sale now and just $5 if you get them before May 9! After May 9, the price increases to $10.
Visit NapaRCD.org/GardenTour2026 for information and ticket sales!
