Named scribbles are a developmental stage of art, where meaning is verbalized following what initially may have seemed like random expressive mark making on the page. (If you want to nerd out about it, look up Lowenfeld) As a music project, Named Scribbles takes a similar approach but with songwriting - of initial expression, with meaning and order to follow. PRECISION. If youâve ever carved and printed your own linoleum blocks you might relate to the pressure for perfectionism. Youâve got to plan your design in reverse, and then each piece you carve is removed and swept away for good. Itâs a reductive process. No eraser or covering over like in some other 2D mediums. No command/ctrl+Z like in digital creating. Thereâs much more flexibility and variety in how you choose to ink it, though youâll know when you hear that distinct sound of the brayer in the perfect amount of ink. Ultimately, seeing the handmade process in the finished product is a big part of the appeal and charm. And in the age of mindless AI âartâ being churned out, UArts (RIP) got it, with their tagline of âadvancing human creativityâ
