I am becoming more and more fascinated by butterflies and insects in general. Now I am trying different options for shooting them both whole-body and macro. I also try to look for emotions in this genre which is more difficult than in bird photography. But all these are pleasant challenges thanks to which I feel my development and fill my hobby with new interest. Special thanks to @myrental.by for existing and giving me the opportunity to try different things. Yesterday I took the RF 100mm F2.8 L to compare its functionality with the RF 100-400 + extension tubes. As a result I decided that I really need to buy this gorgeous lens.

І як жа цікава бывае, што як толькі ты пазначаеш лайфера, у наступны сезон ты пачынаеш бачыць яго адаўсюль. Last year a Black-tailed Godwit was my lifer. It just so happened that in 2025 it also was the bird of the year in Belarus. And I find it funny that once you mark a lifer the next season you start seeing it everywhere. This year I have counted so many of these endangered birds that it looks like they come out specifically for me to make pictures of them.

Самае цяжкае з лунямі — гэта зразумець, бачыў ты палявога, поплаўны ці стэпавага. Мне пашчасціла зрабіць здымак поплаўнага на тым жа месцы, з чаго я зрабіў вынік, што гэты прыгажун — менавіта поплаўны. Таксама дапамаглі праглядваючыя плямы чорнай палосцы на крылах на другім фота.
Гэта быў самы захад, ён на здіўленне павольна сядзеў на слупе і дазволіў паздымаць сябе з машыны, што дазволіла мне зрабіць нізкую вытрымку для такіх цяжкіх светлавых умоў.

The hardest thing about harriers is to understand whether you saw a Hen, a Montagu’s or a Pallid one. I was lucky enough to take a picture of a Montagu’s harrier in the same place so I concluded that this handsome one is a Montagu’s. The spots of the black stripe on wings in the second photo also helped.
It was sunset, he surprisingly calmly sat on a pole and allowed me to take a picture of himself from the car, which allowed me to go low on shutter speed for such difficult light conditions.

Я не вельмі веру ва ўдачу ў кантэксце фатаграфіі дзікай прыроды. Няспрэчна нейкая яе частка ўплывае на рэзультат, але я больш веру ў досвед, веды, тэхніку здымкі і вывучэнне паводзін. Але выпадкі як гэты прымушаюць мяне зноў разважаць аб сваіх перакананнях. Я не верыў, што наўпрост гуляючы па лесе, у якім дагэтуль не адзначалася вялікай колькасці рэдкасцяў, можна знайсці натуральнае (!) гняздо (!) барадатай кугакаўкі (!). Гэты цудоўны момант у нейкім родзе сімвалізуе для мяне тое, якія прырода мае з намі зносіны, як яна можа раскрывацца, паказваць сябе, размаўляць з намі. Сапраўдны кантакт.

I don't really believe in luck in the context of wildlife photography. There's no doubt some of it influencing the result but I more believe in experience, knowledge, shooting techniques and studying behavior. But cases like this make me rethink my beliefs. I didn't even thought that you can find a natural (!) nest (!) of a great grey owl (!) just walking through a forest where there haven't been many rarities noted before. This wonderful moment somehow symbolizes for me the way nature communicates with us, how it can reveal itself, show itself, talk to us. Real contact.
