These two weeks inn December have been quite a journey as we worked on creating these Season’s Greetings with the brass players of @konzerthausberlin
The video consists of around 1000 individual hand-painted images on paper. The shot material with the brass players served as a reference for the rotoscopy, an animation technique in which images are redrawn or repainted frame by frame. Felt-tip pens, colored pencils, watercolor paint, acrylic paint and ink were mainly used. The foreground and background were painted separately and then digitally reassembled.
The style is an evolution of techniques we discovered during our #famimation sessions and of course of Boris’ amazing signature roto artwork.
This was an amazing ride.

Animated sequences for the ARTE documentary about Otfried Preußler who is one of the most successful German authors of the 20th century. His children's classics such as "Der Räuber Hotzenplotz" and "Die kleine Hexe" are still read and lived today. The documentary, produced by @3b__produktion and directed by Thomas von Steinaecker shows Preußler's moving story and his years-long attempts to process these experiences in his book of life "Krabat".
Together with @mxvbck we took the illustrations from the books and brought them to life: Character rigging (👈 Max), background extension and adding texture with scanned lino print ink and vintage paper.
