Today #Disenchanted is available to stream on @disneyplus . I brought Giselle's coloratura soprano notes to life — it’s me. #Giselle is beautifully sung, acted, produced, and danced by @amyadams . When I was asked to demo this song for production in entirety as Giselle, I wrote in some “Disney Princess” obligato quotes at the end of the piece — I sang, engineered, and recorded from my studio as Giselle on this very earworm-y @alanmenken & @stephenschwartz piece which ended up being used with my voice in the final edit... albeit without my permission breaching @sagaftra contract rules before it was “too late” to "unlock the credits" and negotiate for #FairPay in dealing with multiple problem “employers.” I literally found out on another session for the film when they show-ponied this scene for the music team and I heard my voice coming out of Amy’s mouth without anyone caring they were disregarding and breaching contract. If you listen closely, you can hear some of the iconic passages I wrote into the original tracks I recorded from my own studio that got used in the final edit without my permission nor even knowing it was going to be used until I happened to be on that additional session — Snow White's vocalise from 1937's "With a Smile and a Song," and a high E6 at the end of "Fairytale Life (After the Spell)." It was a joy, originally, to lend the Soprano I notes throughout this magical film on the choir sessions after crafting the pre-production sessions, with a nostalgic nod to the iconic Jud Conlon Chorus (Alice In Wonderland, Peter Pan) before the illegal and unethical treatment evolved. #ScreenCredit in the opening credits was a thing back then for vocal directors, arrangers, and @SAGAFTRA singers. TW: SA A couple of nights ago, when I was having a discussion with someone I really respect — this beautiful trombone solo came up in conversation. I’ve been learning and practicing trombone as part of my doctoral degree, in progress. I was bouncing the idea off of said conversationalist that I just want to be able to play this solo (the short version, as written), and then extend Sammy Nestico’s beautiful chart to go around the form again for a longer trombone solo by the lead player. I didn’t want anything to be sacrilege, though. This was recorded on an early Sunday morning in autumn at East West Studios, None of the sax executioners yelled at each other like they did on the previous session, which I promptly curtailed directing from the booth. I recorded/produced an entire big band album in one day, then decided to add another session and more songs since I had money leftover in the budget from high-functioning, efficient direction/production.. No striping here. If you don’t know what striping is, comment below and someone will ‘splain. Bob McChesney nailed the simple, well-written empathetic solo in one take. In that same conversation, the subject of SA came up in relation to why I have taken down a lot of my content. It’s because I don’t want to think about or see those predators that appear in/on my work = this piece included. I felt correct about re-sharing this piece for educational purposes – no person should experience anything illegal while pursuing their dreams. I was encouraged to talk about this subject publicly to help people who have gone through something similar ... ... and get back to sharing content, with or without my deadname, old or new.
