“You’re right. Everyone else is wrong.” In our fall 2025 issue’s cover story, Dezi Tibbs sought advice from the great gender nonconforming and trans performers who paved the way, despite the odds set against them by the industry and broader culture that deny their legitimacy. @lorenza.bernasconi and I had a blast at the @publictheaterny Shakespeare for the City kick off event! It’s going to be a theatre-filled summer, and I’m ready for it.

It was an honor to chat with theatre legends @theharveyfierstein and #RobertOHara about this iconic revival of La Cage aux Folles at @nycitycenter .
So often, the pillars of queer theatre fail to recognize the true intersectionality of the community, so I’m delighted to play a small part in capturing this historic moment.

Happy Hat day! Our April issue is here!
Take a peek at these glorious stories:
An inside look at the sounds, strategies, and long game of @mexodusmusical by @dcorzine
An interview with @milo____hi on “No Singing in the Navy” @playwrightshorizons by @itslikegeorgebutwithanie
Four brave playwrights — @_kumarde@benne_benjamin , @buffalobailey and @amazongenue — reveal their writing (and life) schedules to @malloryjaneweiss
Jade Jones, who’s lighting up @bigfootthemusical , talks to @mx_deziduck — and also drops our cover quote on their vision for a more gender-inclusive theater industry:
“At the end of the day, we’re just playing pretend. People are coming to see us tell a story. If you’re telling the story, it shouldn’t matter,” @littyofficial said. “If you’re male or female or nonbinary, it shouldn’t matter. If you can’t sing a high G or whatever, it doesn’t matter. We can change the key.”

"How can artists resist apathy to facilitate moments of catharsis?"
I fall in and out of love with the theatre on a daily basis. Is it possible to incite change? Is there any point in starting conversations if they don't go anywhere. I know that I have a deep love and faith in the power of storytelling, but I get so wrapped up in making something "good" that I forget why I'm working in the first place.
My colleague, Francisco Mendoza, realized to deeply connect with the story you're trying to tell, sometimes you have to explore outside of the structure of a traditional play. Thus, the part one-person show, part interactive role playing game USCIS: Immigrant Nightmares Division was born.
In this interview, published by @civiliansnyc , Mendoza and I talk about how his dark romantic comedy evolved to this all-day theatrical event.
It seems like this Off-Broadway season was the season of “Hey, Black Queer! Call your mom!” So I wrote a little ditty about shame and how the theatre can help us confront and overcome it. Give it a read! Link in bio!
When I was sitting in the audience at @theshedny watching The Brothers Size, I suddenly remembered the video of Donald Trump’s press conference. Remember? The one where he said the citizens of Baltimore were “born to be criminals”?
I couldn’t help but link the two and experienced a sense of catharsis as McCraney’s characters struggled to reclaim their humanity from the prison industrial complex.

working on Umoja was a healing experience. The ensemble that @arestophanes1 gathered inspired me so deeply with their talent, commitment to their craft, and joyous spirit.
Thank you @makingour_space_theatreco for facilitating this experience.
‘twas such an honor to celebrate my best friend over the weekend. Every day with you is a gift, and I treasure it. ❤️
Here’s to the next decade of love and laughter! 🥂
On this day in 1965, the world was blessed with a supernova of a person, and every day since then she has reminded the world just what a blessing she is. There is no one as special…as beautiful as you. Your light shines incontestably, and I’m honored that it shines on me. Thank you for giving me life and then making that life worth living.
