So, apropos of nothing, and just to spread some joy instead of gloom #TheSecretDJ posted this on their FB and the post went nuts. What was it? They made a list of some of the "good eggs" in the house music / dance music industry. And a friend of mine sent me it and said "Mate, you're on this!!". I don't think I've ever met The Secret DJ -- how would I even know if I did? So, @foolsparadiserecs launch party at @fabriclondonofficial was a bit ICONIC! I started DJing and promoting nearly 20 years ago - back when funky house and disco house ruled the waves. Yesterday, I felt like I travelled back in time to that point. I haven't been to @fabriclondonofficial in years, so it was pretty immense hearing all those bangers on THAT sound system. Here's some pics and stories: 1. GRANT NELSON - I first got to know Grant 19 years ago when I helped co-promote the clubnight, Shiva. We booked him to play a few times and I'd done some PR bits with him, too. I also own roughly a gazillion of his songs. One of the nicest blokes in the biz. 2. WAYNE FROM SOUL AVENGERZ - another DJ and producer duo (Paul is not in this pic but he IS in my IG story) whose music I gobbled up by the bucketload back in t'day. They're the kind of producers who make bangers after bangers. Instant hits and funky as hell floorfillers. Proud to call him a friend and fellow nutter! 3. RICHARD EARNSHAW - my @hedkandi DJ colleague. But above all of that, one of the best soulful, jazzy house producers of the last 20 years. How to describe his music? Every song of his you listen to, you can literally feel and see SUNSHINE. It's like being wrapped in a blanket of Summer - with your head unable to stop grooving. 4. MARK KNIGHT - the man behind the party and head honcho of @toolroomrecords . Another titan of the scene. I played on a Toolroom Knights DJ line-up YEARS ago, but last night was the first time I actually met him. He's created something really special here... 5. BEN CHANDLER - We both DJ'ed for Love-tec at @pachaofficial London back in the day. And years later I booked him to play at MY night. High energy behind the decks with big vibes. Love the bones of him. 6. TODD TERRY - this was an utter fanboy moment. I did NOT play it cool.🫣 7. KID CREME - I came to his attention as an ardent fan attending their (with @realjuniorjack ) every UK gig. Decades later, we're mates and I'm less INTENSE. Thanks for inviting me, bro. Xx 8. FABRIC ROOM 1. 9. THE SET-TIMES. 10. THE WRISTBANDS - Thank you for looking after me, @fabriclondonofficial . Your hospitality was LUSH.❤️❤️

The pictures and some stories. At the start, I was sat in a bus shelter behind @equityuk , handing out @togetheralliance stickers. I was sat beside a lovely elderly lady. Giving her stickers and making conversation for a good 20 minutes. I asked her if she was with Equity. She said she was a writer. I asked her name. She said @timberlakewertenbaker . I was like "Oh my God. I feel like such a div. You literally wrote the first play I ever performed. As a teenager. It was called Our Country's Good!". We spoke some more. And then gave out some more stickers. One of the chaps I gave a sticker to had lost his. So I gave him another one and jokingly said "they're a fiver each now". I gave him some more and asked him his name. That was Jack Thorne(?!) 👀 Soon after, in the midst of HALF A MILLION people, I bumped into my old drama school chum @annaliewilson , met up with @shaheen_khandem and @shobukapoor and marched with them - and then lost them - while stopping to hand out stickers. 🤦🏾‍♂️ And then caught @iammichaelrosen and thanked him on behalf of my kids. I caught some fab speeches by @greenpartyzack , Maxine Peake and loads more. I danced, I hugged, I cried and I felt an enormous amount of love, solidarity and togetherness. #TogetherAlliance (This is just the start. The next time we do this CANCEL ALL PLANS and come down. Be a part of something bigger than the shite we have to deal with on a daily basis. Be a force for change. Be a force for good).

I have felt isolated and left out for so long. It's been really rough. Yesterday, I felt like I belonged for the first time in a LONG time. Thank you @togetheralliance , @equityuk , @standuptoracismuk and EVERYONE. ❤️ #TogetherAlliance

Tomorrow we march. As one. Led by @togetheralliance and including, well, every positive, force-for-good organisation you can possibly think of. Seriously. Everyone will be there. Cancel all plans.
