Our next sonic adventure involves screening a new edit of 'Specialist Machines' at @beck_road_studios tomorrow (13 September 2025). The event is part of the Open House Festival (@opencity_uk ) and also features work by artists who are part of the Beck Road community. The event is free. It's also Ilia's birthday. Come say hi. We’ll be supporting @daryl.worthington ’s project Beachers who will be interpreting pieces from his forthcoming tape ‘Horns of Death’, playing a replica fox-hunting horn and electronics. Our sound art project @mutefrequencies returns to @cafeotodalston on Tuesday 19 August for a special evening marking the 4th anniversary of @divfuse – with whom we have been involved since its very beginnings. We’ll be presenting an expanded version of our sewing machine piece ‘Specialist Machines’ featuring sounds recorded at the Central Saint Martins fashion department and stories collected from those close to the industry. Project DIVFUSE brings together a few artists and musicians who have exhibited or performed at the Clapton-based micro art space since its doors first opened to public in July 2021. This evening will celebrate different aspects of experimental sound and multimedia art. Join us next weekend @divfuse where we'll be presenting our latest film and sound installation "Specialist Machines". Recorded onsite at Central Saint Martins, a college renowned for its fashion programme, the piece shows an array of machines in operation, including industrial sewing machines, overlockers and buttonhole machines. Each unit has its own sonic signature, mechanical quirks and operational rhythm. These machines are typically used in factories and therefore go unseen/unheard by the general public. "Specialist Machines" aims to hone in on the details that shape the unique voice of each machine, while surfacing ideas about manufacture, fast fashion and our relationship to clothes. There will be an interactive element to the installation where you will be able to construct your own soundtrack to the film in real time. We had a great time debuting ‘Unthread’ at @divfuse today! We performed the piece three times to an intimate audience and even had a stage invasion by some inquisitive kids who took over Laura’s sewing machine. Thanks to everyone who came and listened to our new work!

We're going to be workshopping our new piece 'Unthread' at @divfuse on Saturday 18 November. It's a work in progress that employs the sewing machine as the primary sound source, with some loops and effects thrown in. We'll be performing the piece twice - at 3pm and 5pm. We're taking part in Radiophrenia again this year, this time with our piece Humming Top Orchestra. The recording documents an interactive performance conducted at the Beyond Beck Road / Open House Festival in London, 2022. The performance took place on Hackney’s Beck Road, a street known for its artistic community. The audience was invited to spin a set of humming tops laid out under a railway bridge. Each of these toys emitted a drone when spun. They were miked up and the signal processed live through a bank of effects. The intention was to keep the humming tops spinning indefinitely, creating a long hypnotic symphony of drones that interacted with the passing trains and incidental street sounds.
