Introducing @lucymuss_art . See her works in person as part of open studios this Saturday as part of @opencity_uk and @beyond.beckroad Lucy is a self-taught artist who recently returned to her home in East London after eight years living with her family in Berlin. She has worked previously in the world of film-making and interior design, but painting is the purest form of her self-expression. She puts her storytelling and love of space, shapes, and fascination with colour into her paintings. Many paintings start from colour, and it is often the most simple daily life objects such as food, wine, and flowers, or daily domestic life, that she sees the beauty in. A feeling of nostalgia feeds into her work, and through painting, she feels she can pause time, making things somehow last forever. She loves working on private commissions. Meet @tess_mcmillan is a painter who lives and works out of London. McMillan explores themes of identity, family, and domesticity through her paintings. Her work often blends the surreal with the figurative, utilising bold color and expressive portrayals of the human form. By examining the many faces of the domestic experience in a vacuum, McMillan hopes to illuminates the ways in which our loneliness is actually the thread that binds us.

Meet @minjukim_art and see her work in person at open studios as part of @opencity_uk and @beyond.beckroad . Minju is an emerging South Korean artist based in the UK. Drawing inspiration from human anatomy, psychoanalytic theory, and her breast cancer journey; her work explores themes of desire, life, and death. Her practice spans painting, sculpture, and photography, among other media. Exhibited internationally in cities such as London, New York, and Seoul. She collaborated with Adidas London for Women’s Month in 2022 and her painting raised significant funds at a Sotheby’s London charity auction in 2021. OUR NEIGHBOURS__ Join an exciting Open Air Film Screening and performance under the railway arches on Saturday, September 16th, from 8 to 10 PM, curated by artists Jenny Baines & and Andrew Vallance. One of our favourite projects, the Beck Road railway arch projection screen, is back this weekend! Jenny and Andrew do an immense job wallpapering the arch to transform a seemingly ordinary urban space into a canvas for projecting a curated selection of short film screenings. Featuring talented artists like Savinder Bual, Lucy Harris, Matt Harding, Sue Harding, Jim Hobbs, David Leister, Lynn Loo, David Robinson & Bryan M Mills, Guy Sherwin, and more to be announced. WORKSHOP___ Resonating Sounds: All ages drum workshop + sound walk We're excited to welcome back Bang Bang Drum School to our street this weekend. They used to be studio members and are now a part of our community arts project, focusing on percussion and sound art. They introduce kids of all ages to rhythm, notation, and sound in a playful way. For Beyond Beck Road, Bang Bang will lead a full-day workshop exploring the DIY aspects of drumming. Families can join in, creating beats and playing with Bang Bang's assortment of bucket drums, homemade shakers, customised drumsticks, and frame drums. Afterwards, they’ll take a sound walk along Beck Road, activating the street's architectural and sonic features through percussion. The goal of this workshop and sound walk is to bring families together and demystify drumming, incorporating unique styles and techniques that expand our view of the instrument and its history. Remember, anything can be a drum, and anyone can play it.
