On International Museum Day today, @museumchd and @chandigarhtourism organized a painting competion with the theme - "Museums of Chandigarh" where students from various schools in Chandigarh participated and showcased their amazing skills.
At 58 years today, since the Chandigarh Museum and Art Gallery was inaugurated, we pay tribute to its founder Dr. MS Randhawa through this wonderful image from the archives which has him captured in a compelling stance, complimenting the lean podium.
Let's laugh with Kumbhkaran, today which is also celebrated as "world laughter day" 😄...
Kumbhkaran was a character also mentioned in the epic Ramayana, who is known most for his ability to sleep. Due to a trick by Goddess Saraswati when asking for a boon from Brahma, Kumbhkaran asked for Nidrasana (bed for sleeping) instead of Indrasana (Indra's throne) as a result of which he slept for six months.
The painting here depicts various attempts to wake Kumbhkaran for the battle against Ram and his monkey army. From beating a drum and blowing trumpets in his ear to luring him with the smell of fresh goat broth 😂 can you identify the others?
How many of you have been called Kumbhkaran at least once by your parents who were tired of your seemingly everlasting sleeping habits...😅
Did they bring in an elephant to finally wake you ?

"Maciej Nowicki — a Polish architect who played a remarkable role in designing the newly founded city of Chandigarh, India. After World War II, he was recruited by the Indian government during the early stages of the project, serving as one of the chief architects and planners before the project was later taken over by Le Corbusier (after Nowicki’s death in a plane crash). Nowicki’s vision for Chandigarh combined modernist planning ideals with sensitivity to local conditions, climate, and Indian city life. He believed in open, airy, functional urbanism that integrated green spaces, water features and community amenities.
Although his life was cut short in a plane crash, his influence remains evident in Chandigarh’s early master planning and in the ethos of combining utility, modernism and human scale. In the calendar, he stands as a symbol of architectural friendship and the modernist aspirations of postcolonial India."
Join us at @museumchd on 12th May for the inauguration of an exhibition that will celebrate his work and vision for Chandigarh.
Join us for our upcoming exhibition "Humanist Modernity - The Unbuilt Chandigarh of Maciej Nowicki" where we pay tribute to, and look back on the architect's work and legacy, along with his vision for Chandigarh.
The exhibition is being organized in collaboration with the @niaiupl ( National Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning, Warsaw) and Polish Institute, New Delhi and will be inaugurated on the 12th of May.
Eucalyptus trees typically shed their bark annually, with the most significant shedding occurring during the summer months. This process, known as decortication, allows the tree to shed old bark, along with mosses, fungi, and parasites, to accommodate rapid growth and maintain health.

The Devotees — a silent prayer in stone, echoing across centuries.
From the heart of Gandhara, this 2nd-century sculpture captures the essence of early Buddhist devotion — figures with folded hands, carved in reverence.
Where Greco-Roman artistry met Indian spirituality, Gandhara birthed a timeless visual language of faith. Each fold, each gesture — a testament to humanity’s eternal search for the divine.
📍On view at the Government Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh.

A City Reimagined Through Brick, Tile & Thought.
Artists Jagnoor(writer, Chandigarh) and Divyanshu Gurjar(Artist, Rajasthan) come together for a site-specific exhibition hosted at the Government Museum & Art Gallery. Through three conceptual installations—Site of Play, Site of Observation, and Site of Theorisation—this collaborative project reflects on the metaphor of the city, using familiar urban materials like brick and roof tiles in unfamiliar, evocative ways.
What happens when everyday objects are lifted out of utility and placed into memory, metaphor, and meaning?
This exhibit invites you to pause, reflect, and reimagine the narrative of space and city.
🎥Take a glimpse into their process, practice, and poetic provocation.
