Very special day yesterday when @carterandrewsfishing invited @vandershred & myself to join him for a day of running the beaches looking for Jacks! The goal for the day was to assist in the capture of these hard fighting fish so that the Coastal Research Lab of FIU could deploy telemetry tags in an effort to better understand these data deficient fish. This effort is led in good part by the Florida’s angling community & @saltwaterguidesassociation . It was a pleasure to see this fishery first hand, see the scientists work and assist in deploying five new tags.

@sarahnellis and @murphy_fly , owners of @gaspe.coastal Lodge, will be joining us to celebrate an evening of conservation and storytelling. They’ll be presenting their film “This Is Ours” alongside the film crew from @thesoflypodcast .
Sarah and Andrew are partners in life and business, and recently opened Gaspé Coastal Lodge in the heart of the legendary Cascapédia Valley. Both are deeply connected to the rivers and waters of the region, and this lodge is a project close to their hearts.
Shot in the Gaspé Peninsula, the film follows Sarah and Andrew through one busy day during their first season as lodge owners. Between welcoming guests, guiding anglers, managing equipment and hosting, they work tirelessly to build something meaningful while staying true to their vision.
From chasing Atlantic salmon on some of the most iconic rivers in the world to sight fishing striped bass on the flats, This Is Ours captures the passion, dedication and reality behind building a fly fishing lodge rooted in place and purpose.

GaspéCoastal Pt. 2 - Bass-pé
From big fish on the rocks to a closing session on one of my favorite Gaspé flats, the stripers continue to steal the show up here. When we poled onto the flat, the busting fish wasted no time telling us where they were, and where they wanted our gurglers.

@gaspe.coastal saw the opportunity to explore the striper fishery in the Gaspé in a new way. So, they drove 4 poling skiffs up from Florida and started poling the eel grass flats surrounding the peninsula. And boy oh boy: it’s a blast.
