We’re looking forward to welcoming Becks Skinner back to the Castle for our next Muncaster Talk: The New Mrs Davidson on 19 May 2026.
Inspired by a 1911 wedding dress in The Beacon Museum Collection, Becks set herself the challenge of creating a period “going away” outfit using her 1905 Frister and Rossmann sewing machine, alongside historical hand sewing techniques.
This fascinating talk explores the research behind the project, tracing the story of Mrs Davidson through records from Whitehaven, Egremont and St Bees. Becks will also delve into the fashions of the era and what life was like at the time.
You may have spotted Becks sewing in the Castle during her sewing days with us in 2025 — and we’re delighted to have her back.
