Happy to announce that my father’s book, “Landscapes of Exclusion: State Parks and Jim Crow in the American South” has been adapted into a short documentary, directed by Ian Forster with support of the Library of American Landscape History. The film is a great introduction to this important work that utilizes beautiful archival footage in highlighting the inequality experienced by people of color looking to gain access to the public, scenic spaces promised to all Americans through the New Deal’s massive state park expansion. I hope it will peak your interest to dive further into our nations shared history in understanding the lasting imprints segregation has left to this day, as well as the ways in which people continue to push for access and preservation of the beauty around us. Last weekend, after 30 hours of confronting deep rooted layers of self-doubt and fear, I came to accept the most challenging pain I may ever know and embraced it until it transformed into the purest form of love a person can manifest. Baby Muoni was born May 2nd at 9pm weighing a whopping 9 pounds. My whole pregnancy I pondered what our meeting would be like and I can unequivocally say there is nothing trippier than finally getting to meet a person that you made... I know I will continue to be transformed by this union for the rest of my life and regardless of what stressors or hardships may come our way, if this pregnancy has proven anything, it’s that diamonds truly are born under pressure. Thank you for making me your mommy 🥰❤️
Today is officially my due date 😆🙈 it has been a wild ride to say the least but I’m filled (literally) with so much excitement, love and gratitude to have my health and the support systems I have. Might be a few more days still but whenever you’re ready little one, I’m ready ❤️
