Local content has grown in leaps and bounds over the years. Today, it does more than just entertain - it connects people. In the latest episode of MultiTalks, Shirley shares how reality TV not only brings something to look forward to but also brings something that people can connect with. "It brings connection with either your family if you watch as a family and also connection as a people as a culture in whatever format that might come. Another class has officially graduated 🎓🎬   The MTF East Africa Graduation marks the moment our storytellers step into a new chapter, one where they are encouraged to reach for the stars and create the stories they want to see exist in the world.   Throughout the MTF programme, they’ve been shaped by industry voices, alumni, and partners who continue to inspire and guide the next generation of African filmmakers. Today, that journey takes a new turn as they move from learning to doing, and we could not be prouder.   To the MTF East Africa Class of 2025, this is your moment! The screen is yours, the stories are yours, and the world is waiting to see hear your voices.   Keep reaching for the stars… and beyond✨   #MTFGraduation #MTFEastAfrica

As someone who has worked on both scripted and unscripted content, Shirley shares how reality TV allows us to showcase ourselves in a more authentic and realistic way. She adds that reality TV provides a mirror to society and it calls for society to do a lot of self-reflection. Over the years, MultiChoice has added a variety of reality TV shows including shows that focus on families like the Mselekus on Uthando Nes'thembu to creating shows which focus on relationships, breakups and even paternity shows which bring a fresh take on our screens. This past weekend, we partnered with the Solly Malatsi Legacy Foundation founded by the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, to handover a fully sized soccer field with natural green turf and state of the art sprinklers to the Moduane Village in Limpopo. “The partnership with the Solly Malatsi Legacy Foundation makes perfect sense for MultiChoice Group, a CANAL + Company, because we share the same mission: to ensure that young people have access to quality facilities and proper equipment. The Foundation continues to make a concerted effort to support rural football clubs, providing gear and resources so that youngsters can play on decent fields,” Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng, MultiChoice Director of Public Affairs Rest of Africa said This marks the 18th sport’s field constructed and handed over by MultiChoice through it’s SuperSport Let’s Play. To date, we have invested more than R40million in school sport across South Africa.

Earlier this month, the Joburg Film Festival reinforced MultiChoice Group's position as Africa’s leading storyteller. This year’s theme, #FeelTheFrame, came to life through visually striking films, immersive soundscapes, and stories that travelled far beyond the borders, connecting filmmakers, audiences, and cultures from across the continent and the world. Beyond the screen, the conversations mattered just as much. From understanding your audience and building your film as a business, to embracing the power of scarcity and intentional storytelling, the creators were challenged to think bigger, smarter, and more strategically about their craft. Most importantly, it was a celebration of African creativity in its purest form - our music, our languages, our colours, and our stories. As we journey forward, we will keep telling your stories and continue to put African narratives on the global stage.
